Before You Were Born Meme

I’ve been tagged by the lovely MamaMummyMum in this ‘Before you were born’ meme. It took me a few moments to actually recall such a time that we were without our children, but given that we were together for over a decade before we decided to start a family, we should have plenty of memories to draw on, so I’ll give this a whirl..!

What’s your favourite holiday destination and why?

I know I’ve mentioned this before here, but it’d definitely be the USA. Now, I know that’s a vast area of holiday destination, and we’ve been to a fair few places over there, with still so much of it that we’d like to explore. I’m a huge fan of Las Vegas (it has sunshine, virtually round the clock shopping, shows and entertainment, so much food to choose from and I am partial to the odd slot machine ;-)), and I loved LA and Orange County. Disneyworld was brilliant, and we’re looking forward to taking Boo and Little Man there one day, and I’m also keen to get to New England. As to why I like the US, it’s friendly, it’s fun and it can be warm.

Though I should say, it’s funny how the kids do change things, as we’ve been holidaying firmly in the UK since Boo’s arrival, and have discovered a new-found love of exploring our countryside, beaches, wildlife, and many, many parks – they really do change everything, don’t they?!

What is your funniest memory pre-children?

Hmm, tricky! When I start thinking about this one, I’m hit with a barrage of memories of fun times spent with my brother and his wife. We went on a few holidays together (now that’s something I definitely miss) and have amassed plenty of stories that way. I’m not sure they’d translate as funny when written down, they’re more those ‘you had to be there’ moments (the bad beer, the speedos, the drink spillages, the PJ dancing, the overheating…), but suffice to say we had a good giggle.

What was your favourite thing to do in the evening?

Well, I was quite happy with a book or a DVD, which I can still do, but we did also love going to the cinema and out for meals with friends, which has pretty much bitten the dust now!

What hobbies do you have that you can no longer do?

None, really – the benefit of being bookish! I can still read, though the amount I read has been somewhat reduced. I did used to go to the gym, but I didn’t love it, so I guess I should be thanking them for that!

What do you think you took for granted before having children?

Being able to rest and relax. It sounds so simple, but the idea that we could just finish work (work is never finished as a mum!), and sit down/have a bath/read until midnight, as I knew I wouldn’t be interrupted or woken in the night…you get the point..
