Word of the Week 5/12/14

Thank you #WotW linkers! Lovely to have you joining us. If you’re new here, Word of the Week is a nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. You reflect back on the past week and sum it up in one word. Then share your word with us in a blog post, with as little or as much explanation as you like. I comment on and tweet out every post, as long as you add my #WotW badge or a link back to here. It’s a fun and friendly linky, so please do be lovely and visit as many of the other blogs as you can and share with them your thoughts on their words and weeks.

My word of the week this week is:

countdown

Yes, the countdown has well and truly started here!

This week has seen our Christmas tree and decorations go up, advent calendars appear and Marty the Elf has arrived. The children are excited, and every moment seems to be a countdown to them!

On the organising side, I’m aware that we’re nudging ever nearer, and so I’ve now completed my Christmas shopping, started the huge pile of wrapping (I hate wrapping!), started to post cards out and arranged a few meet ups with friends to swap pressies. Our weekends seem to be full from now until Christmas, so I’m attempting to squeeze a few more hours out here and there! Of course, the countdown also means a new years countdown, which must mean new stationery, right? Yep, blogged my top picks a couple of days back 😉

I love Christmas, and to me it’s as much about this countdown time as it is the day itself, so I’m trying to get my bits and bobs sorted and out of the way so that I can enjoy watching Elf regularly, have fun on Muppet Christmas Carol day, help Boo learn her nativity lines and know that when it’s time for It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve, all will be taken care of!

What about you? What one word sums up your week best? Please grab the badge, link up and share.

  1. Countdown is a very appropriate word for this week – definitely starting the countdown to Christmas in earnest now! Am very impressed by how organised you sound – still haven’t finished my Christmas shopping, although have most of the girls’ presents which are the most important ones so am getting there. Hope you have a lovely weekend and thank you for hosting #WotW each week x

  2. Christmas is on its way. Great you’ve got your shopping done. I think the countdown to christmas is as good as the actual day too. We shall be watching elf tonight 🙂

  3. I adore this time of year and the countdown is the best bit. I have only two presents left to buy – might do today – and then wrapping. I do love wrapping but the amount needed this year is a little overwhelming!!! Ha. Sounds like you’re all getting into the spirit very nicely 🙂 xx

  4. Oh, I hate wrapping too! I’m very chuffed with myself though because I wrapped all of my eldest’s presents yesterday, yay. We may well be having our ‘Muppet Christmas Carol’ day this Sunday as we’re getting the tree and I thought it might be perfect to combine the two 🙂 x

  5. I wish I had a little longer in my Christmas countdown. My usual organisation hasn’t happened this year, I may be prepared for the end of Feb at this rate! Have a great week x

    1. Yes, I’m not sure how traditional it’ll be, but Mary and Joseph are in it, and the songs she’s practising are about Jesus, so sounds nativity to me! Oh, me, too 🙂 x

  6. The countdown and preparations really are half the fun aren’t they? Though our present cupboard is overflowing how and I am not looking forward to wrapping it all either. I used to love wrapping when ai had endless time, since children arrived it feels a lot harder to make time to get it all done! Xx

  7. Afraid I went for the much explanation option this week!

I much prefer your word to mine! I think my shopping is done, just waiting for the last couple of parcels to arrive as I did most of it online. I have found the cards but not written any yet. I must get the going-abroad ones done this weekend!

    Thank you for hosting xox

  8. I agree that the countdown is almost better than the day itself (as an adult!) – I definitely enjoy the sourcing and buying presents for others now more than receiving (I don’t get much these days *sob* 🙂 ) and the Christmas telly and films and stopping for eggnog lattes during the shopping, browsing Christmas markets, mulled wine, party food, preparing the magic bits for the children – what’s not to love! I’ve never seen Elf but It’s a Wonderful Life is definitely one of my favourite films – might have to watch that again on Christmas Eve! 🙂

    1. Oh, Elf is brilliant, and yes, I’m so looking forward to the kids settling to bed, and snuggling down with It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve. Perfect 🙂

  9. Wow! Sounds like you’re seizing the moment… Each and every one of them and very organized too 🙂 …I’ll sit down with my calendar this weekend and figure out the details…
So happy to be over here again this week. Have a wonderful weekend!
