Word of the Week – 30/5/14

Thank you so much for continuing to share and to link up. I love reading everyone’s chosen words, and it’s great to see so many familiar linkers, as well as new ones each week.

If you’re new here, Word of the Week is a nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. You reflect back on the past week and sum it up in one word. Then share your word with us in a blog post, with as little or as much explanation as you like. Come join in! All that I ask is that if you link up, you link back to me, and visit a handful of other blogs and comment on their words.

My word of the week this week is:

play

Yep, playing, playing and more playing here! Now, having 2 preschoolers, play often features heavily in my week, but even more so this week. We’ve been very fortunate to have received several new games and new toys to review this week, which I’ll share with you soon, and they’ve been very popular! The children have also received some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DVDs to review (the review is favourable!) and so Boo wanted to use some of her pocket money to buy turtle toys, which have been played with a lot! With all of this rain, I’ve been stretching my mind and creativity to keep the kids, and me, amused inside, so we’ve had the tuff spot out again with a little sensory and messy play. I’ve also gone for the old favourite trick of rotating the toys a bit, so suddenly ignored and overlooked items are getting played with again just because they’re in a different room! I’ve continued, just about, to get my blog/family-life balance right, so I’ve had plenty of time to join in and enjoy play-time, too, and at the times where I’ve been doing other things, I’ve delighted in hearing Boo and Little Man playing happily and noisily together. It’s been a good week.

  1. I love rotating our toys- works every time! We are thinking if getting a tuff spot too so glad it gets used 🙂 isn’t it the best hearing them play together? So sweet! Lovely word 🙂

    1. It’s a great way of giving them ‘new’ toys! Yes, the tuff spot is fun – sometimes they just stand in it and dance, so it’s very low maintenance then! It is the best, I love it 🙂

    1. I’m amazed to have it going for 2 weeks in a row, and I’m planning for a holiday so writing more posts than normal to be scheduled up. I hope I’ve finally cracked it!

    1. It’s taken me months to get there, but I think I am. There needs to be a change of mental state and acceptance, I think. It’s great when you do, though 🙂

  2. I love a bit of toy rotation… and so do the children! I can hardly believe the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are still around. I loved them when I was little, haha! Mel #WotW

  3. Love rotating toys – we have several boxes and my toddler gets to choose which one she wants each day – some are more popular than others but they all get picked over the course of a couple of weeks. Play is a great word – sounds like you’ve had a fun week.

    1. Oh, there’s been a lot of playing! They do play with each other, so I do get freed from it sometimes! Yes, I’ll have the reviews up soon 🙂

  4. Life at the Little Wood

Ooh, rotating toys – I’d never thought of that! What a great idea to ensure they get the best out of everything! Sometimes I think they are a bit overwhelmed by how much they have. We very often put some birthday and Christmas presents away and bring them out later in the year when they’re more appreciated. A lovely word Jocelyn, and it sounds like a lovely week too! Xx

  5. Rotating toys is so good- I always forget until I put toys in a bag to ‘leave’ and then I go through the pain of putting them all back! It sounds like you’ve had a fab week- especially if messy play’s been involved!

  6. Wow you seem to get so many different products to review these days Jocelyn! Its really great for the children. I really must do some toy rotation… 🙂

  7. Lovely post, Jocelyn. I always envy you your ability to fit so much in and balance your life – how DO you do it?! I have to admit, the rain nearly had me beat this half-term. My older two are easy to set up with playing but the baby comes along and trashes it, so I spend our playtime whisking off the baby after he’s been “accidentally” whacked by a cuddly snake, or similar. Sigh. This is a great linky, I like reading the posts even if I don’t always join in. Have a great weekend! x

    1. I’m not sure I’ve quite nailed it yet, but I’m getting there! Thanks very much, lovely to have you drop by whenever you can 🙂

  8. Sadly, now they’re older, many of the girls’ toys have been replaced with nail varnish, clothes and jewellery! But I remember rotating things to keep their interest. I loved sitting on the floor with them and playing too!

  9. I just had to look up what a tuff spot is – looks seriously handy for messy play! It’s always a bit trickier to work out how to keep them entertained when it’s rainy but it looks like you had a fab week 🙂
