Word of the Week – 23/5/14

Thank you so much for continuing to share and to link up. I love reading everyone’s chosen words, and it’s great to see so many familiar linkers, as well as new ones each week.

If you’re new here, Word of the Week is a nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. You reflect back on the past week and sum it up in one word. Then share your word with us in a blog post, with as little or as much explanation as you like. Come join in! All that I ask is that if you link up, you link back to me, and visit a handful of other blogs and comment on their words.

My word of the week this week is:

Sunny

Firstly, well, because it’s been sunny! We have been out and about enjoying it, and I do love the sunshine. It makes me happy.

But actually, the main reason that I chose this word, was more a reflection of my mood. Sunny, cheery, carefree, that type of thing. Now, it had a big dip at the start of the week, and was more restless, unfocused and frustrated, but I opted to turn it into sunny! I like to be busy, whether it be with this here blog, projects around the home, tasks that need doing, even boring housework, so if I’m struggling to get settled into a to-do list or don’t feel I’m ‘achieving’ things, I can get mad at myself. So having felt like that for a few days, I let go. I’m quite sure that the sunshine helped my mood, and as did the week’s activities, as my word could also have been ‘sociable’. Boo had two parties this week, so I was chatting with and meeting mums that I’ve either not seen for a while, or that I met for the first time. These will be the mums that I’ll no doubt be seeing at the school gates for years to come, once Boo starts school in September, too, so it’s been nice to meet a few. I popped to see a good friend of mine and her newborn baby, and catching up with her always makes me smile, as she is lovely. We also went over to Thomasland for the day with the lovely BrummyMummyof2 and her children, which was a great day out. I think I’ve also, finally!, found the right balance for us around blogging and family time. I have made an effort to spend less time on social media (my phone has not been glued to my side!) and have joined in with a few less linkys, too, so I have felt like I’ve had more time to enjoy with the kids, and I’m really noticing my mood lifts when I can do this, and I’m happier to do it as I’ve not got a huge to-do list piling up mentally. Somehow, everything’s still got done, but has felt easier and more relaxed. So yes, parties, days out, being sociable, afternoons in the garden, letting go of tasks and to-do lists have all added up to a sunny week for me 🙂

  1. Sounds like you’ve had a great week lovely! Feels good to get the balance right doesn’t it. Thomasland sounds fab 🙂 lov your word too. Hurrah for sunshine and all that it brings. Long may it continue xx

  2. Sounds like a lovely happy week! Great that you’ve found the balance between blogging and family, its not easy to do! I wad trying so hard at one point that life seemed to fit in around the blog, rather than the other way round. My pregnancy made me step back and now I have a much more relaxed approach to the blog and am enjoying it much more. So I may not publicize it as much and I may not get as many page views, but it is also much less stressful! Glad you had a sunny week and thomasland sounds like lots of fun! Xx

    1. It’s a hard balance to find, I think, but it’s feeling right at the moment, so hoping it lasts! I’m glad you’ve found yours, too, and are a lot less stressed x

    1. Yes, I do think that’s been a big contributor to my mood, which I hadn’t really thought about until I sat down to write this x

  3. That sounds like a great way to turn things around. Sunshine definitely helps lift one’s mood I think too. I hope you have a lovely weekend and continue to enjoy the new found balance 🙂

  4. I agree with all the previous comments – sunshine lifts us all. It’s so nice that your mood matched the weather, I expect that you also brought lots of sunshine into the life of everyone you met.

  5. Ah! Lovely cheery word! Your day out at Thomasland looked fab (I read Emma’s post!) and your garden is looking beautiful. X

    1. It was brilliant – I will of course blog it very soon 🙂 And thank you, I’m so pleased with the garden now and love sunny days to be able to spend them out there. Thanks, Sam x

  6. What a great week you’re having! 🙂 I had a similar epiphany about my blog a while ago when I found I was having panic attacks because I didn’t have a post ready for a particular linky, once I decided it didn’t matter and I let it go blogging became enjoyable again.

  7. If only we could bottle and preserve that sunshine feeling!
So glad you have had a good week and are achieving the goals you want within the home and in the virtual world.
    Sx

  8. I’m pleased to hear that you are starting to gain a good balance between blogging and real life, its amazing how not checking emails and social media whilst your out can change your day. So jealous that you went to Thomas land we love that place.

    1. It really can- makes a huge difference. We’ve had a week quite full of activities and socialising, yet I’ve still kept on top of things, so I now know it can be done! Ah, we love it, too, and love just 10 minutes from it, so we’ll be back there again very soon 🙂

    1. Thank you very much, and lovely to have you joining in 🙂 I’m enjoying ‘sunny’ and despite the rain, I’m sticking with it!

  9. Sunny is such s positive word and it’s perfect for your week. I have to step back occasionally (this week was definitely one of those weeks!) and always feel better for it.
    Have a lovely weekend x

    1. I’ve felt great, and I’ve still been blogging, so it’s been ticking over 🙂 Hoping I can keep it going for a bit x

  10. Sounds like a great week! I’ve really enjoyed getting to know some of the school mums and a little group of us have become a bit of a gang and are having a night out tomorrow. It’s been a slow burn though as the girls have been together for nearly two years now!!
Hope there’s lots more sunshine in your life over the next week too.

Aww, so glad you’ve had a sunny week Jocelyn – can you send some our way?? It’s so grey and cold over here! I know what you mean about Social Media and blogging taking over – I’m trying hard to balance it all too. It’s a tricky one! Hoping that next week is as sunny for you! Xx

    1. The sun has gone! I’m remaining sunny, though 🙂 It is a tricky one, but I’m really trying to get it right! X

  13. Sounds like you have had a good week! I have had a break from blogging for a bit and am looking forward to spending more time away from it and social media too although I have a feeling it will be easier said than done! #WotW
