Word of the Week – 17/10/14

Thank you so much for continuing to share and to link up – I love to find out about everyone’s weeks in this way, love it!

If you’re new here, Word of the Week is a nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. You reflect back on the past week and sum it up in one word. Then share your word with us in a blog post, with as little or as much explanation as you like. I comment on and tweet out every post, and it’s a friendly place, so come join in! All that I ask is that if you link up, you link back to me, and visit as many of the other blogs as you can and comment on their words, please.

My word of the week this week is:

damp

Not the most inspiring of words! It has been wet most days here, and I seem to have managed to get caught in pretty much every shower. School runs have been fine up until recently, because of course they were dry, but now we battle through lashing rain, with a 2 year old who refuses to have a rain cover on his pushchair (and is more than capable of kicking it off!) and so ends up damp. The plus side to this, as I really have to try and find one, is that we’ve been enjoying some delicious hot chocolates when we get home!

I look out into my garden, that I was lovingly tending until a few weeks ago, and all I see is damp and soggy, with leaves that I really need to rake up, but I don’t want to go out there because it’s damp!

We’ve been tired, with Boo having a bout of croup and Little Man testing out his ‘big boy’ bed boundaries, so a few disturbed nights, waking to dark and wet mornings, leaves my mood feeling altogether ‘damp’. The news that there’s a sick bug going around Boo’s classmates does nothing to lift me either, as I absolutely loathe sick bugs hitting this house – they’re never good, are they?!

It’s then, I suspect because of the weather and the tiredness, been a week with niggles and irritations. Nothing huge, nothing significant, just little thing after little thing. I’m sure if it was hot and sunny, I wouldn’t be dwelling on them! But yes, enough to put a dampener on my normal positive mood.

But do not worry (were you even worrying?!), as you know me and I will lift myself out of this damp place, in spite of what the weather may throw at me. For I have Tots100 blog camp to look forward to tomorrow, my nephew’s theatre performance next week and it’ll be half term before we know it, too, which I’m really looking forward to. Come on sunny disposition, come back!

  1. Oh dear indeed. I think we have been lucky as the rain has managed to stay away from the important KG run and commuting times for us. It certainly does alter your mood doesn’t it, hard sometimes to want to do anything other than snuggle up with a hot chocolate and marshmallows! I hope you enjoy the weekend and that the event tomorrow gives you a lift x

  2. its been very damp! I’m so glad I don’t do the school run anymore but it has been horrid on the two mornings that I’ve done the nursery run. Glad to see some positives in this post. Hope you all start getting more sleep soon x #WotW

  3. Damp is a very good word for the week – it has been quite a soggy one and sleep deprivation makes thing seem worse too. Hope you manage to avoid the sick bug and look forward to hopefully saying hello to you tomorrow x

  4. We have been pretty lucky here…there has been rain but not as much as it sounds like you have had. Last night there was a terrific thunder storm nearby. We saw the lightning and heard the thunder but had no rain at all. We found out that just 10 miles up the road there were flash floods!! Crazy weather!

  5. Oh, I know exactly how you feel. The school run is fine if it’s dry, but throw in wind and rain and it becomes fairly hideous! And I hate the fact that we already seem to be leaving the house in the dark-I hoped it would take a little longer for it to do that. I send my sympathies-having been there many times before. It does get a little easier once they’re older 🙂

  6. Sorry to hear about all the “dampness” … I can relate to this one, especially since our dog always seems to be damp too. Sigh. Well, we’re scheduled to have better weather this weekend. Hope you also get the same forecast on your side of England 🙂 #wotw.

  7. We got rather wet this week too and had hot chocolate on return home as we all got caught in the rain without any raincoats! Bad mum alert! Lets hope next week improves x

  8. Aw what a damp squib of a week! You’re right,it’s not like you to have a non-positive kind of mood but it’s only human and I think it’s important to admit it on the social media too – keepin’ it real 🙂 Sounds like you’ve got lots to look forward to though! Xx

    1. Yes, my mood has definitely dipped so there’s no denying it! I do have things to look forward to, though, and I’m sure being in a roomful of lovely bloggers tomorrow will cheer me 🙂

  9. Yay – commenting and not heading into spam 🙂 Sorry your week was damp – my word could easily have been mud as the pig pens are now getting a bit churned up and the veg patch is looking soggy but the finer art of losing things took over instead.

  10. You do feel a lot more tired after getting damp, don’t you? Buy I agree with you: there’s nothing better than hot chocolate after getting soaked!

  11. Hmmm half a message posted!
Those hot chocolates sound good! I’ve been indulging myself this week.
And remember stationary always brings a smile to damp days.
Hoping for a less damp week next.
    Sx

  12. It’s funny how the weather plays a big part in how we feel and I don’t blame you one bit for feeling damp…I would too. Dark, wet mornings after a disturbed nights sleep really aren’t nice and if you are feeling low to start with I bet they feel even worse than they actually are!

I hope Boo doesn’t get the sick bug on top of her croop. Can’t you just spend the winter snuggled under your quilts and come out when the days start to warm up?…Not practical?…I am sure next week will be slightly less damp….My Dad was a keen gardener, but in the winter our garden always looked dead and dull.

    Thank you for hosting #WotW.

    1. Oh, I’d love to keep her off school and all snuggle, but I’m pretty sure I’m not allowed to do that! It’s hard to brighten the garden now, so I’m thinking a decorating project to brighten inside might work!

  13. Oh dear, that does sound a bit damp and miserable! We had a week like that recently and I lost count of the number of times I got soaked! I love that you see the positive in the hot chocolates though 🙂
