Word of the Week – 12/9/14

Thank you so much for continuing to share and to link up, I do appreciate and enjoy reading every single WotW post. And I do always comment, but someone mentioned my comments weren’t getting through to them, so if I’ve tweeted yours out but you see no comment, let me know as I will have left one!

If you’re new here, Word of the Week is a nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. You reflect back on the past week and sum it up in one word. Then share your word with us in a blog post, with as little or as much explanation as you like. I comment on and tweet out every post, and it’s a friendly place, so come join in! All that I ask is that if you link up, you link back to me, and visit as many of the other blogs as you can and comment on their words, please.

My word of the week this week is:

adjusting

There’s been lots to adjust to this week. It has been the first full week with Boo at school. We’re getting used to the school runs, and are so far making them stress-free (phew!), and Little Man and I are finding our own routines together. I miss Boo, having not been apart from her this much before, but the day does go by quickly and she’s always smiling on pick up. I’m even managing to find out what she’s been up to sometimes! Little Man and I have been to two new classes this week, and I’ve really enjoyed seeing him in these environments and supporting him in learning new things. With this one to one time that we’re having, I feel that we’re having better quality time together, as he’s all that I’m focusing on for several hours every day. And as a new school mum, I’m getting used to the seemingly constant communications being sent home from the school, with various requests, and Boo’s had her first party invite already! It’s a whole new world for us all, but we’re hanging on in there and adjusting to it, and so far, we’re coming out smiling.

What about you? What one word sums up your week best? Please grab the badge, link up and share.

  1. I can imagine this is a huge adjustment, and one that is mixed with a touch of sadness and excitement too. Must be lovely to have lots of one on one time now with your son. Hope the school run stays stress free! xx

  3. We’re adjusting too Jocelyn. JJ is also settling in nicely! He even told me he was excited about going to school this morning! But yes, I’m feeling somewhat daunted by the flow of paper and even a first bit of homework this week. I still don’t get much quality time with EJ because of work but we’re off to toddler group in a minute! 🙂

  4. That’s great to hear. I still find I need to adjust after every holiday, especially the longer ones, but it really does help when your child is happy to be at school. My little boy loves nursery and skips along every morning-that makes everything so much lovelier 🙂

    1. Yes, I really think Boo happily getting up and bouncing to school makes the whole thing much easier to adjust to. Glad your son’s still enjoying himself 🙂

  5. 1st party invitation for Boo… exciting time for a little girl! It sounds like she is having a great time at school. Your little man must be enjoying his time with you, too. Crazy how much paperwork we get from school, isn’t it?

    1. She loves it, Mel. And Little Man seems to be enjoying it all just as much, too – it’s just me still feeling sad! So many letters!! x

    1. She;s just back in from her best friend’s party, with a nice slice of cake and a fun goody bag! Lots of fun 🙂

  6. Sp pleased to hear that it’s all going well, it is quite an adjustment! My 5yo is also settling in well, and after a few weeks it almost feels like he was always at school with his brother 🙂 I do remember those first couple of weeks the first time round well though x

  7. Finally able to link-up once again 🙂 …. Adjusting is a good word! Little T I think is finally adjusting. She’s been weepy the whole week, though her teacher said that she would stop as soon as she was inside her classroom. Today, I’m proud to say she didn’t cry at all! Here’s hoping she won’t cry again next week 🙂

    1. Yes, plenty! I have to say I didn’t but now that they’re here and she’s happy and I can see how good it’ll be for Little Man, it’s all OK!

It’s crazy the amount of notes and letters that come home in the first few days, isn’t it? Totally overwhelming! You’ll be totally on top of it and handling it all like a pro in no time though! 🙂 That’s great that Boo has settled in so well – it definitely makes the whole adjustment process a bit easier on us mums! Xx

  9. I hear you about the constant stream of letters from school. I get them in triplicate and endless text messages to inform me of tiny little changes. It does get a bit much sometimes!

  10. Adjusting is definitely a good word for starting school time. It sounds like you are all adjusting well and it will be good for you to spend 1-1 time with little man. Sounds like Boo is enjoying school.

  11. Lovely that Boo is enjoying her school days – I sometimes think there’s more adjusting for mums than there is for the children and I know exactly what you mean about endless communications from school. We get an email newsletter and a paper copy and at least 2 letters every week!

    1. Yes, I strongly suspect I see this as a bigger deal than she does! Oh, we’re getting something most days, and I’ve workshops to attend over the next fortnight, too!

  13. I am so glad that Boo is settling into school nicely, it so much easier for you that she has. Enjoy the time you have left with Little Man before he starts school as it goes by in the blink of an eye! Before you know it he will be all big and bristly!

Being invited to a party is always exciting and I hope Boo enjoys it.

    Thank you for hosting #WotW!

    1. She loves it there, and yes, it makes is much easier for me, knowing that she’s happy and comfortable there. And yes, I know the next 3 years will fly by! She was excited, but unfortunately isn’t going, as we’re busy with her birthday plans that same day! There’ll be plenty more, I’m sure! Thanks x

    1. He had days when Boo was at preschool, but I confess they were my ‘catching up’ & housework days so were dull for him! Now it’s all about him, with activities & groups that he’s enjoying 🙂 x

  14. Starting school is a big adjustment, not only for the children (although they seem to be able to breeze thru it) but for us mums too who have to learn a whole host of new things – from juggling school letters/emails and demands to being without them for huge swathes of the day! Sounds like you’re adjusting well & keeping your head about water… it’s lovely to have one-on-one time with your little one. It’s lovely x
