Word of the Week 11/9/15

Hello and welcome to Word of the Week.

If you’re new here, Word of the Week is a nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. You reflect back on the past week and sum it up in one word. Then share your word with us in a blog post, with as little or as much explanation as you like. It’s a fun and friendly linky, so please do be lovely and visit as many of the other blogs as you can and share with them your thoughts on their words and weeks. I do comment on every entry to the linky, and if you add the Word of the Week badge to your post to help spread the ‘word’, I also tweet them out.

My word of the week this week is:

change

I now have a 3 year old son, a daughter in year 1 at school, and I’ve started my Open University studies. It’s been a fair old change in one week!

Boo’s return to school was on Monday and she was quite happy to see all of her friends again and explore her new classroom. She’s delighted in telling me about the changes and differences, compared to Reception, and is settling in well. At the weekend, she also moved up a swim class, which did upset her as she was leaving her friends behind, but I’ve no doubt they’ll be with her again soon and I piled the praise and encouragement on to distract her!

Little Man and I have been getting used to the school runs again and having our days together. We’ve some new classes lined up over the next week, and we’ve had our first day of him going to my mum’s for the day so that I can get my head down and study. It went well, as I feel like I’m into it now and it was great to be able to sit and work with no distractions (well almost none – must turn my phone off next week!) and he really enjoyed his day with nanny.

The Husband’s hours at work have changed this week, and he now works an extra half an hour at the end of each day. We’ve been getting used to pushing our mealtime back, and changing routines so that it all still works for us, whilst he adjusts to his new hours. His pay has also shifted from weekly to monthly, which has seen me sifting through our accounts and changing direct debits about to allow for it.

I’m also making a few changes round the house, trying to make things more organised and better for us. My planners are now in full use here!

Then there’s the change in the seasons. I love summer, it’s my favourite season as I am happiest in the heat and the sunshine. But I have come to appreciate autumn as I enjoy seeing the changing colours, and it’s nice to have a rifle through my wardrobe and pull out my snuggly jumpers again. I am adapting to the change!

What about you? What one word sums up your week best? Please grab the badge, link up and share.

  1. That’s quite a lot of change all happening at once, and a good planner is needed for times of change!
Glad to hear that it’s all positive change, and that Boo is enjoying life in Year 1. It is a big step up for them but it sounds like she’s taken the week in her stride. And good luck with your studies!
    xx

  2. That sounds a good choice of word for you this week – and it’s nice to see change being positively embraced rather than feared. It can be a good thing, even if it’s a little unknown. Thanks for hosting and have a super weekend x

  3. Wow, you’re superwoman. I hope that you’ve got a fancy cape to wear with all that going on. I’m a Summer person too. Cold weather makes me cranky. Good for you for finding the positives!

  4. Change is a great word for you! I’m so pleased Little Man enjoyed his day with your mum and you equally enjoyed studying, very exciting. I look forward to hearing more about it on Monday 🙂 xx

    1. They are, thanks. Oh yes, she’s happy to be at school again, and looking forward to the first lot of homework – she’s so odd! x

    1. I’m studying History, with this year’s module spanning 500 years, so there’s a fair bit to take in! Oh yes, any excuse to buy more stationery 😉 x

  7. Sometimes life just floats along and then all of a sudden there are lots of things changing at once. But when it’s good changes like these it’s not so bad 🙂 glad Boo has settled in Year 1 😀

  8. You are a busy, busy bee! I’m glad you’re managing to juggle everything and went for the OU course.
I’m loving this late summer/early autumn weather, the fitflops are still out ATM, it will be a shame to put them away.
    Have a lovely weekend x

    1. I am! I’m so pleased I decided to go for it, as after just one session I’m really enjoying it. I’m the same, I do hope it lasts a bit longer x

  9. Lots of positive changes for you. I’m glad (and jealous) that you are getting to do your degree. I’m not surprised that your planners are coming in useful! x

  10. I so agree with you, it is so sad to see summer go but I love Autumn and am now adappting and enjoying bringing all my sweaters out ready for winter. It must be so hard studying from home I bet it takes some discipline x

    1. It will be tough, I think, but I’m trying to confine it to a certain day and not get distracted by the blog or housework on that day, just knuckle down. We will see! x

  11. Gosh, lots of changes going on in your house this week…all sounding positive though and that’s the main thing.

I’m going to aim to start off in my new home, when I move, to be properly organised from day one. We’ll see how long that lasts! 🙂 x

  12. Change is such a good word, I do like change (most of the time) and it’s a fitting word for an autumn week – though it barely feels like we are out of the summer that didn’t really happen!
Glad to hear that Boo is settling back in to school and I hope the changes you have planned for around the house are going well!
