Little Adventurers: Leafy the Pet Leaf

From the award-winning Philip Ardagh, and rising illustration talent Elissa Elwick, comes a brand-new picture book series! Meet the Little Adventurers – Finnegan, Sprat, Floss and Peanut. Each week they meet in their top-secret shed HQ, ready to share their fun with you! This week, Sprat can’t seem to find his cat, Shadow, anywhere. And he absolutely has to have a pet – it’s bring in a pet day! So, instead, he finds a leaf, draws a little face on it and… Ta-Da! Sprat has a pet: Leafy! But can you really have a leaf as a pet? With an activity idea and an information page with every story in the series, the Little Adventurers four will encourage hours of immersive play, and will ignite the imagination of curious adventurers everywhere.

Don’t Call Me Choochie Pooh!

From Sean Taylor, the author of Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise, and Kate Hindley, illustrator of Worst in Show, comes a hilarious new picture book comedy starring a very small fed-up dog… This dog doesn’t want to be carried in a handbag (how embarrassing!) or eat heart-shaped Mini Puppy Treats (I mean, come ON!) and under no circumstances does he ever want to be called … Choochie Pooh! If only his owner understood. All he wants to do is play with the big dogs in the park – chase sticks, jump in muddy puddles and be an ordinary, proper dog.

Julius Zebra: Rumble with the Romans!

From the hilarious, celebrated cartoonist Gary Northfield – author of The Terrible Tales of the Teenytinysaurs! – comes a brand-new illustrated chapter book series set in Roman times! From a smelly watering hole deep in the heart of the Serengeti to the ferocious clamour of the Colosseum, join Julius Zebra and his motley menagerie of friends as they gear up to be … gladiators! Only if they win the love of the Roman crowds will they win back their freedom. But do Julius and his pals have what it takes to succeed in a world where only the meanest and toughest survive? Madagascar meets Gladiator in this exciting, action-packed and hysterically funny story brimming with entertaining Roman facts.

The Adventures of Alfie Onion

A stand-alone comic adventure for younger readers by sublime storyteller Vivian French, with pictures by a talented new illustrator and animator, Marta Kissi. Alfie Onion has just set off on a great adventure … but only to carry his brother’s luggage. It’s his elder brother, Magnifico Onion, who’s destined to win their family a Happily Ever After. But when it turns out Magnifico isn’t half the hero he’s cracked up to be, it falls to Alfie to save the day – with a little help from his loyal dog, a talking horse and a couple of meddling magpies.

Mango & Bambang: Tiny Tapir Trouble

Mango and Bambang’s adventures continue in the third book of this charming illustrated series about a little girl and a tapir, described by The Sunday Times as having “real charm … reminiscent of Paddington.” When a small but mischievous tapir guest comes to stay with Mango Allsorts and Bambang in the busy city, things soon get into a rather troublesome tangle. Tiny Tapir Trouble is Book Three in this delightful series for younger readers.

Boo reading Julius Zebra

The kids are so happy with their new books! As you can see, Boo dived straight into Julius Zebra, and she was particularly pleased to receive this one as zebras are her favourite animal and you don’t get that many zebra books! The fact that is also combines a little history really appeals to both of us. She’s just finishing that one and then I think we’ll read Mango & Bambang together, as not only do I adore tapirs (there’s something so cute about their noses!) but I also like the comparison to Paddington Bear so I am keen to read more. That’ll leave us with a fabulous sounding adventure story to round off our reads with, in the shape of The Adventures of Alfie Onion.

Little Adventurers: Leafy the Pet Leaf is a really sweet tale and both of the children enjoy this one, and have since got their own pet leaves, naturally. The gang of kids are funny and the idea behind this series is charming, so we’ll be sure to look out for more Little Adventurers books.

Don’t Call Me Choochie-Pooh makes both of the kids laugh, and I totally agree with the sentiment behind it that dogs should be dogs, no matter their size. It’s a fun read.

Mango & Bambang: Tiny Tapir Trouble and Little Adventurers: Leafy the Pet Leaf are both out this month, the newest of these titles.
