Which of the Mr Men are you?

We read lots and lots of children’s books here, and so they tend to work their way into everyday lives, as the characters come alive for us and we find ourselves able to recite the stories pretty much verbatim! Julia Donaldson is a huge hit with both Boo and Little Man, and we also love classics such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Peepo, Dear Zoo and Each Peach Pear Plum. Boo has just started chapter books, which means Roald Dahl’s magic is now weaving it’s way around our house. And, as the title of this post suggests, we also have the complete Mr Men Library.

So, which of the Mr Men am I? Is it really only me that ponders this question? I can’t be the only parent winding their way through the Mr Men collection on a regular basis, noticing the quirks of the characters and the way that that wizard is always popping up at just the right time. I also like seeing the homes that each of the Mr Men live in and how they reflect their personality – yes, I know I need a little more adult conversation!

mr menSo it gets me to thinking about which one I’m most like, which one my family and friends are most like, and which one I’d secretly like to be. When I was little, my own mum read these to me and my brother, and I somehow got the tag of Mr Noisy – can’t think why…! My brother was Mr Bump (OK, he was only 1 and was just getting used to moving about, so this was an easy one), though within a few months he’d moved on to being a fully fledged Mr Mischief. But that was then, what now?

I’ve always felt a kinship with Mr Happy. I love yellow, I’m an eternal optimist and what can be wrong with being happy all of the time? Just looking at his big, cheerful yellow body makes me smile. However, on reading all of these books again – over and over – I’m not so sure about him. Happy he may be, but I also notice he’s more than a little bit interfering. If there’s a Mr Man that pops up in several stories, it’s Mr Happy. Is it his business to enlist Mr Tickle to get Mr Grumpy sorted? Why is he going to stay at Mr Rude’s and get in his way? Seems a bit full of himself – sorry, Mr Happy, but I call it like I see it.

So if that’s Mr Happy out, who am I? I look for the qualities I most aspire to – Mr Clever or perhaps Mr Skinny? (it’ll just never be!) . What one person aspires to, another ignores. I recognize this, as my husband couldn’t be less interested in being considered any of the above, yet Mr Funny, well that’d be nice and what man doesn’t want to be?! And he’d love it if our children ended up as Little Miss Neat and Mr Fussy, as he does like things tidy!

And then it comes back to me. However I cut it, however many times I like to think I’m this one or that one, it’s an incontrovertible truth. You only have to read this post to know. I’m Mr Nonsense.

Who are you, and who would you like it to be – they tend to be different! I look forward to finding out which other Mr Men are out there reading this. If you don’t know who you are or have no idea what I’m waffling on about, then buy some Mr Men books now!!!

  1. Haha what an awesome post! I love how you think Mr Happy is interfering, that really made me giggle =] at the moment i am definitely Mr Sneezy, i can thank hay fever for that! =D

  2. Great post! I love the fact that these books, so loved by my brother and I are still going strong today. These days I’m certainly Mr Forgetful, mixed in with a little bit of Mr Bump, My Happy and Mr Tickle! #PoCoLo

    1. Oh, lovely to be Mr Tickle! The original Mr Men title 🙂 I think we’d all be a good mixture of them all! Thanks for reading x

  3. I am loving the new blog by the way! I always liked Mr Tickle-long arms meant every job was much easier and breakfast in bed was a cinch, plus he got to make people laugh. One of my proudest book collection moments was getting Roger Hargreaves to sign one of my Mr Men collection. Sadly I can’t remember which one it was.

    1. Thank you very much :-). Mr Tickle is an excellent choice! The way you’re describing him, I’m thinking all mums should be Mr Tickles! And a signed copy – wow!

    1. No, no Little Miss for me either – a ’70s baby! Love that your mum still has your My Daydream cup ;-)!

  4. When I was little I used to be called Little Miss Bossy, then as a teenager I was known as Little Miss Cheerful (my friend even got me the book which I still have). Now, I’m not so sure. Probably back to Little Miss Bossy again.

  5. Such a great post 🙂
It’s been a long time since I read the mr.men books and Arthur’s not ready for them yet (he’s definitely already mr.bump though!) I would probably be best described as mr.bossy 🙁

  6. What a great post! I have seen Mr Men books everywhere but I will admit I have yet to own one or read one. I really must jump on the wagon and get Buba and Missy Moo some Mr Men Books. They sound great. So I have no idea who I would be? Suggestions Jocelyn? lol I will keep an eye out for Mr Nonsense too. wink wink. Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me. I appreciate the support. I love getting to know more about you and your awesome blog. 😉
