Over the weekend we visited one of our favourite National Trust sites, Sudbury Hall.
Sudbury Hall is a winner for us as as well as a beautiful hall to look around which normally has an I Spy trail on for the kids, sprawling gardens to play in and a fun woodland play area, it’s also home to the National Trust Museum of Childhood. This also helps to make it perfect for rainy days as it’s a property that you can spend plenty of time at inside, and the play area is very shaded under trees so doesn’t get too wet.
The kids ran free, and ran and ran and ran and we had lunch overlooking the water in such peaceful surroundings. There was then some conker hunting and inspecting the huge variety of trees before taking in the hall and the museum.
The museum of childhood is just fabulous for all ages, the Husband and I very much included. There are lots of interactive exhibits dotted around, including an old school room, a story-time dress up area and a chimney to sweep. At the end there’s a room full of toys and puzzles to play with, puppet shows to put on and building blocks to create with. The kids always enjoy it there and I like taking a trip down memory lane as I spot some toys from my own childhood.
There’s also a gift shop, plants for sale and a cafe, with lots of spots for picnics. We always enjoy it there.
I do love our National Trust membership and we make the most of it visiting a variety of houses and gardens most weekends. It feels like we’re getting full family days out that all of us enjoy, all for the inclusive membership price. It’s worth having a look at the properties around your area on the website to get a feel for what will be available as well as thinking about any weekends away or UK breaks you have planned as we tend to tie in visiting a National Trust site further afield whenever we go away. We often build them into breaking up longer journeys, as a stop off at a grand house is far more appealing than a motorway service station to stretch our legs and refuel!

We live quite close to Sudbury, my husband often takes his service users to therapeutic activities there and they always have a wonderful time. I have yet to visit myself but it is somewhere we plan on visiting soon, they’ve got some great autumn activities to try.
