Our Visit to Manor House Wildlife Park

On our recent holiday to Bluestone, Wales, we spent a happy few hours at Manor House Wildlife Park, also known as Anna’s Welsh Zoo. I was particularly keen to visit, as we had watched the TV shows about it and it looked lovely, and we were literally just 10 miles away from it near Tenby, so it was first on the holiday agenda.

The place feels inviting and calm on entering, and the enclosures are all very open giving it more of a safari park feel than a zoo. There was plenty to see, with rhinos, zebras, wallabies, camels, gibbons, tapirs, meerkats and more.

It does make for quite a bit of walking, but to be honest, Boo was that enthralled with all of the animals that I don’t think she really noticed. And when we discovered a little play area…

and then a huge field complete with bikes, ride ons and more, her energy seemed to double! She adored this bike..

So, of course, Little Man had to have a go. I’m not sure what this chat is about, though…

I thought it was a brilliant idea to have all of this play equipment there in this wide open space, and our two certainly made the most of it all.

We really enjoyed our visit. The atmosphere of the place felt so very relaxed, and it wasn’t overly commercial. It felt a little rough round the edges, but well-cared for, well-loved and where the animals and conservation came first. The kids loved it, from Little Man excitedly shouting at the gibbons, to Boo becoming obsessed with that bike – a fun day out!

  1. That does look like a great place to visit. And I too like the idea of all those toys being in an open space like that. Sounds like you really made the most of your visit to Bluestone 🙂

  2. I remember watching this on TV too. Nice to see it’s thriving. I’ll add it to my list too. Isn’t it funny how they always seem to find that little more energy at the sight of a good play area! #CountryKids

  3. This looks so lovely! We picked up a leaflet for Anna’s Zoo whilst on holiday a few weeks back but ran out of time. I love that it isn’t too commercialised – sometimes zoos can feel like theme parks which in my mind defeats the object of them a little. Lovely pics 🙂 #countrykids

It’s great there. and yes, it’s all about the animals and conservation, and beautiful open spaces for the kids – perfect 🙂

  4. It’s great to see the animals in large enclosures and well cared for – keeping conservation at the heart of their business. It looks like the children had the playground to yourselves and the children enjoyed all the equipment and activities there. Thanks for linking up and sharing your holiday fun with Country Kids.

Yes, it was that exactly, Fiona, which was great to see. The kids loved having the run of all of that play equipment!

  5. Fantastic! What a gem of a place for a day trip. If I can work out how, I shall pin it to my Wales family days out Pinterest board. 🙂
