For my very first ‘Papery Peep’ link up, as part of my #BringBackPaper campaign, I’m sharing a fabulous day out that I had earlier this month…
I’ve meaning to visit Hay on Wye for years. A place full of bookshops is kind of like my mother-ship! So, this year, I decided to surprise my mum for Mother’s Day (I get my bookworm ways from her!) with a trip down there. Yes, it was a treat for me as well as for her – win, win! And the crucial part of this day trip is that we went WITHOUT the children! An unprecedented full day out without the kids, to browse books at leisure. I was looking forward to it, and it didn’t disappoint.
I loved it! There were just thousands of books for me to explore, and with a good, old smattering of stationery. We were in and out of bookshop after bookshop, as well as stopping for lunch in a sweet little bistro. I may well have come home with a fair few books, too π
I need to go there! I’ve not been happy that I’ve barely read a book for months (full time work, wedding, pregnancy, house renovation) so I’m on a mission to re-become a.bookworm!xx

Now that sounds like a fun mission and one that I’d fully support! I go mad if I don’t read for a while π
I knew you would enjoy it! It is such a great day out (if you love books) I can’t wait to go again now seeing all your photo’s π x

It was brilliant! I want to go back!
I have to go! I used to spend so much time browsing book shops, but It’s not something you can do when you’ve little ones tagging along. I’ve not been to Hay on Wye but it sounds like my kind of place.

Sounds like a wonderful day out hon. It saddens me that independent bookshops are becoming so scarce!

It is a shame, but I delighted in finding so many!
The last time I went to Hay was before we had children, so a long tine ago now. I’d love to go back-as you say a bookworms dream! Glad you enjoyed your day x

It’s fabulous. I’ll certainly be going again – I’m thinking an annual ‘pilgrimage’ is called for! X
Oh my kid, I’d be like a kid in a sweetshop & I bet you were too! π

I was! So excited to be there π
Ah, I went to the Hay on Wye Literary Festival with a group of girlfriends back in 2006 and it was the best fun ever! They were all from my (former) book group. We stayed in a really cool place with dormitaries (sp?) and booked ourselves up for talks from people like Sebastian Faulks. There were lots of fun events too and of course the best of all was browsing the amazing little town and all it’s bookshops! I highly recommend it! Can’t see myself being able to do that again for some time!! X

That sounds brilliant! What a fabulous memory to have. I would love to do that, but as you say, not for some time!
I love Hay on Wye so much! I’ve only been once but would love to go back, we found some lovely old books that I love. I could spend a week there (and a small fortune!)

Me, too! Loved it so much π
That is my idea of a perfect day out! I am planning at least one bookshop when I am in the UK.
Oh yes, you need at least one π
I’ve been dreaming about going to the Hay festival for years. I’m now even more convinced I need to get there! x

Love Hay-on-Wye! That’s where we honeymooned many moons ago. Would love to go back there and take our 3-year-old π x

What a great place to honeymoon! Loved it there π
That looks like a very ‘you’ place! I love the smell of second hand bookshops, reminds me of being dragged round hundreds of them as a child x
