Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood

We took off on another National Trust adventure recently, this time to Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood.

It was a lovely, sunny day, and so we packed our first picnic of the year, and set off for a day of sunshine, history, toys, and as is inevitable with my children, lots of running about!

On arrival, the kids wanted their picnic – well, they’d seen me pack food so knew it was available! There’s a lovely open field right by the tea rooms and museum with plenty of picnic benches to use, so this part was easy. After eating, they were itching to run about, pick dandelion clocks and explore..

We then went into the Museum of Childhood. It was a fabulous place, with exhibits from years ago, right through to present time. The Husband and I enjoyed an 80’s themed area, and I liked the many dolls houses on display throughout the ages, too. In every room, there were toys for the children to play with, which they of course loved, as well as a big toy room at the end – we were in there for a while!

Back outside, and it was only a matter of moments before Boo found the woodland play area!

And then from there, we found the gardens and lake, and the children ran around, a lot!!

Then we explored the house..

It was a great day out, as the children loved the freedom to run and play, along with the added fun of the toys in the museum. Oh, and they had plant sales and cakes 😉

  1. I’ve always fancied Sudbury-your post has made me move it up to the top of the list! It looks so much fun. I do love the look on the children’s faces-so happy xx

  2. What a beautiful place! The museum looks so fascinating, and the woodland is just beautiful. When we visited the UK, this was on my list of places to visit, but sadly, we missed it.

  3. Looks like another lovely family day out! I’m hoping to get us out to Hatchlands Park in Surrey this afternoon – which will be our first NT trip as a family since buying our membership! X #countrykids

  4. Great sunny, fun photos! Love the one of Boo on the little climbing wall 🙂 That looks like a perfect day out, with the museum, playground, beautiful house and fab grounds! Looks like you all had a great time x

  5. Wow sounds like such a fun place with lots of things to see and do. I bet it was fascinating seeing toys of different eras, and lovely that each room had toys the kids could play with. Very interactive! Looks like you had a lovely day for all the running about outside too! Xx #countrykids

  6. I love a picnic. It is one of my favourite things! Can you believe it is already picnic season. Time just flies! The museum looks like such a nice place to visit. x Mel

  7. Love love all the outdoor and indoor fun things to do. Great to have the combo together especially on such a beautiful day it looks like. Love all the photos too. Your little ones are soooo adorable. So happy too all the time in your photos!! Great post glad you had such a great time all together. I really need to take my kids out more places instead of just to starbucks and soft play areas hahahaha Go exploring. lol Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me. #sharewithme

    1. Ah, thanks, Jenny. Do you know, they are pretty much always smiling and happy, something that I probably take for granted, so thanks for pointing it out. It was great there, and yes, you must adventure more – lots to see! Thanks for hosting x

  8. Ooh rocking the NT membership there again! We went to Hatchlands Park last weekend but the house was shut and JJ was really whiney about the walk to the little play area. I’m hoping that we find somewhere with a little bit more child friendliness soon – the Museum of Childhood looks like a fab place and I can imagine the 80s section must be a real nostalgia trip! #sharewithme

    1. Oh yes – we are getting our monies worth! Shame yours wasn’t a good trip, and I do hope you find a more popular one soon. Loved the nostalgia and Little Man adored ET!
