Project Garden Update 11th September

It’s been a few weeks since I updated with Project Garden‘s progress, so I thought it was about time I updated you.

Firstly, I have lots of new seeds 🙂 I discovered the Higgledy Garden on twitter, and ordered a fair few from them when their bank holiday specials were on. There’s a great blog with handy tips on it, as well as the flower seed shop itself. It’s made me decide to add an area which will be devoted to growing flowers to cut and have all around the house next year – a scatter patch. As you can see, I’ve a few seeds now..

So knowing that I want this area, among other things, and with the weather starting to turn, we’ve been hacking back at the rockery area, and relocating some plants ready for the rockery to be flattened.

Rockery a few weeks ago, in full bloom & glory..

And looking considerably sorrier for itself this week, after we’ve attacked it..

We’ve relocated some of the plants from the rockery over in another bed. This bed is the nearest to the back door, so the one I can see most clearly and most often. Which is why I’m trying to cram as many of my favourite plants into just that one space! I had a peony from my mum for my birthday, as I love them, so we’ve popped that in there, and the David Austin rose, Harlow Carr, that I became a little obsessed with finding and buying is in there, too. In fact, it has quite a few buds on it, so gorgeous little pink flowers are on their way.

And if ever we needed a sure sign that autumn is indeed closing in, I noticed my acer’s leaves are already changing their colour..

So that’s where the garden is at so far. Project Garden is still going strong on the funding, thanks to Gumtree and Netmums sales, and now that Little Man has turned 1, I’ve a few more items that he’s outgrown that I’ll be selling to fund these seeds..!

As we get going on it, I find myself changing my mind over and over about what to include in the re-design and what to put where. What would be your top three items to include if you were designing your garden again?

  1. That is quite a seed collection you have, I do love your garden plans and can’t wait to see it next year. I’m not sure what my top 3 would be, I’d change my mind a million times, but probably Calla Lillies, Hibiscus and Alium.

    1. I am excited about my seeds! I have gone a bit allium crazy, so have got bulbs of those ready to go in next week. Not thought of hibiscus, so I’ll look into those, thanks. I don’t like any lillies, for some reason, which I know makes me very much in the minority! Thanks for sharing x

  2. I love Acer’s, so that’s one of my suggestions gone! I think a water feature is brilliant and am hoping to get one for Christmas. I also love our raised beds for growing. We mostly have fruit as I find it my favourite area to focus on and they’re generally easier in containers.

    1. Thanks for the ideas. We do want fruit, though not really thought about how yet ie raised bed, containers etc. Something to decide on soon… 🙂

I would definitely add more flowering shrubs. I know that I am clueless about gardening but I do know what I like to look at….flowers. I love the idea of your bed just for flowers that you can cut and bring indoors. What a fabulous idea! When do you plant these seeds? Told you I was clueless!

    1. I am really, too! Amongst all of those seeds, I bought an autumn planting set of about 12 packets of seeds, so I know they can go in soon! I’m really excited about my flower patch idea 🙂

  4. Liking the looks of Higgledy Garden, like the branding so I must have a nose! Agree with Claudia on your clearing, you have a really pretty little shed. Everything it looking rather lush too! Project Garden has been a huge success hasn’t it, your garden is looking in great shape. You can see my sorry looking one next week 🙂

    1. You should definitely take a look – great blog & shop. I’m certain you’ll take beautiful shots of your garden, so looking forward to seeing it 🙂

  5. Ooo I’m off to check out Higgledy Garden too – their seed packets look so cool. I can’t wait to see what grows from them. I’ve not grown anything from seed yet, next year I will, but I imagine there’s a real sense of achievement when they grow into plants that looking a shop-bought plants can’t compare to.

Thanks for sharing my dear x

    1. You should take a look – it’s fab! It’ll be my first real foray into growing from seed, and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll report back, naturally 🙂 Thanks for hosting x
