The weather seems to have taken a turn for the worse. It’s blustery and wet out there, so we’re having to get very smart with our planning, to make sure we can get out into some fresh air when we can – got to grab those opportunities when they arise! The other day, though it was very windy, it was dry, so we all wrapped up and popped to a local reserve for a little stroll and a good old game of Pooh Sticks..
We were probably only there for half an hour, but it was all we needed. Little Man loved the freedom, finding puddles and weaving his own way, rather than being in his pushchair, and Boo just adored playing Pooh Sticks.
We bundled back into the car, visited a local toy shop for a bit of fun and a meander, then had a drive around to see the Christmas lights and trees everywhere, before getting back home for a fish & chips dinner. Good time had by all!
When was the last time you enjoyed Pooh Sticks?
Sometimes half an hour is all it takes to blow away those cobwebs. That used to be my school cross country route!
Yes, it really made the difference and we all enjoyed it. Oh yes, right next to Bishop Walsh!
I definitely need to do a pooh sticks excursion with the kids! On my list. And I totally agree a small outdoors trip with the kids is much better than none.
Boo loves Pooh Sticks. So simple, but just adds an extra element of fun to a walk.
I don’t think I’ve ever played pooh sticks and now I’m intrigued. How do you play?
Oh, you’re missing out! Just find a twig, drop it in the stream & then run (the running part adds to the fun!) to the other side of the bridge to see it emerge. Ideally, there should be more than one player so you can race 😉
Sounds like a great family day of fun! As you say we’ve had a lot of rain lately and you have to take the opportunity to get out while you can. Our children love a game of pooh sticks here at Coombe and are very competitive when choosing the right stick. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.
Oh yes, I can imagine the competitiveness! Thanks for hosting x
It’s always great to get outside and enjoy some fresh air even if it’s only for a short while. We love Pooh Sticks too although we’ve not played it recently. We were hoping to get out today but the weather is dire – tomorrow is looking better!
It’s a great game – so simple and can liven up a stroll 🙂
The last time we did pooh sticks was last summer. My three-year-old loved it and of course would get upset if stick got stuck between stones. Ah kids! 🙂 #CountryKids.
Ah, yes, there can be that problem! All good fun!
you cant beat a good game of pooh sticks x
Sounds like a perfect day 🙂 a walk, pooh sticks, toy shop and fish and chips! Fabulous. Even half an hour outside makes all the difference.
We love playing pooh sticks at a little bridge in the forest near by – reminds me of my own childhood. There’s something extra special about doing things with your children that you used to enjoy with your own parents as a child x
We’ve not played Pooh Sticks for a couple of months, but do if we visit a certain park not far from us #CountryKids
It’s such a lovely game, isn’t it? X
Half an hour in the fresh air always make Little B much more cheery! We love playing pooh sticks would rather hurl himself in!
It’s a great game!
Love playing pooh sticks. Wonder if the water levels have dropped enough to go over to the brook this weekend hmmm – thank you for the inspiration
Happy to inspire! X
aww love pooh sticks! Such great, simple fun! 🙂 #letkidsbekids
It’s so simple but they get so excited!
My two are older and they still enjoy playing it (as do I). I guess it’s not something we grow out of!
Nope, it’s a lifelong thing!
I love poo sticks. Such a simple, yet fun game outside!
Thanks for linking #LetKidsBekids
We love it! Thanks for hosting x
We haven’t played pooh sticks for a while. It sounds like you had a lot of fun x #LetKidsBeKids
Yes, always a fun little game 🙂
It’s finding the right stream and bridge that’s the trick with pooh sticks. Great fun. #LetKidsBeKids
Yes, we have a tired and tested haunt that works well!
Love love love playing Pooh Sticks and as the boys are now older there is a lot more planning involved – best location on the bridge and best stick are discussed in great detail before each race!
Love the idea of taking it to the next level of planning!
Ooh! I haven’t played poo sticks for ages!! I’m not sure Miss 6 EVER has! Great reminder 🙂
Enjoy!
