Picture Books Review and Giveaway

Bloomsbury Kids BooksBoo and Little Man were delighted a couple of weeks ago when a package arrived for them. We received a bundle of picture and activity books from Bloomsbury Publishing, and they couldn’t have been happier! As regular readers will know, we do like our books here, so they couldn’t wait to look at all the pictures and settle down for story-time, and they were not disappointed.

We had 3 picture books, and two activity books, so I’ll share each one with you and you’ll also then be in with a chance of winning 3 of them – thanks, Bloomsbury Publishing!

two little bearsTwo Little Bears  by Suzi Moore

High on a mountainside, Little Brown Bear leaves the warmth of the den. He wrinkles his nose, stretches a paw, and with a deep breath, he goes out to explore. Meanwhile, where it snows and snows, Little Snow Bear leaves the warmth of her snow cave. She wrinkles her nose, stretches a paw, and with a deep breath she goes out to explore.

Little Brown Bear and Little Snow Bear may be different on the outside but inside they are just like each other. So when they are brought together by chance, a very special and enduring friendship develops.

We all really enjoyed this one, as it’s a heart-warming tale, and feels all snuggly! It was also a conversation starter with Boo about hibernation, and we played trying to name as many different types of bear as we could.

Herman’s Letter by Tom Percival

Herman's Letter

What do you do when your best friend in the whole wide world has to move a long way away? Promise to write to each other ALL the time and to stay best friends FOREVER, that’s what. But it’s easier said than done – especially when your best friend seems to be having much more fun than you are . . .

Join Herman the bear as he embarks upon one epic journey to deliver a very special letter and to ensure that his friendship with Henry the raccoon really is FOREVER.

This is a lovely book, and as well as the story itself, they both really enjoyed lifting the flaps to read the letters. Herman and Henry are firm friends, and it’s nice to be talking about letter-writing in a day of emails and texts, too.

Spider SandwichesSpider Sandwiches by Claire Freedman

Do come to tea with Max,
He has a MONSTER appetite,

He eats such yucky, mucky food,
His mealtimes are a fright.

He LOVES to glug slug milkshake,
Through a stinky hosepipe straw,
And as for beetle biscuits . . .

He can ALWAYS munch one more!

There are some real culinary delights in this one! It’s a very funny read, and we giggled about what Max the monster likes to eat. There is every disgusting meal imaginable in here, all fantastically illustrated, so it’s a great book to spend time chatting about and laughing at the pictures, too.

MY FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS CAROLSMy Favourite Christmas Carols

This beautiful song and sticker book has everything you need for a magical Christmas! Spot the elf, decorate the Christmas presents, colour in the decorations and much more! Includes lyrics and piano music for Christmas favourites such as Silent Night, Ding Dong Merrily on High and Away in a Manger.

Well, first thing’s first, Boo stickered (there are still plenty more to do!) Then when we called a halt on that, we sang each song and started some of the colouring in. There’s still lots for us to do, as this is a brilliant festive activity book, with over 300 stickers, colouring and activities. I have temporarily hidden it from her, and will get it back out in December so we can enjoy it each day.

my enchanted sticker storybookMy Enchanted Sticker Storybook

This beautiful activity book is packed full of colourful illustrations and stickers to help you write fantastic fairytales! The first sentence of every story has been written for you, but you need to decide what will happen and how your amazing tales will end. Also features two completed stories to add fun stickers to.

This is a gorgeous book, and such a lovely idea. Boo is a little too young to get the full benefits, though we spent time making up the stories, rather than writing them in. Obviously, the stickers attracted her, and we enjoyed the already completed stories.

A fab bundle of books all round!

Now, as I mentioned, I have a copy of Two Little Bears, Spider Sandwiches and My Enchanted Sticker Storybook to give away to one lucky reader. To be in with a chance of winning, use the Rafflecopter – all entrants must live in the UK and the closing date is 18 November 2013. Good luck!
