Papery Peep January 2016

Welcome to the first Papery Peep of 2016!

Papery Peep is that time in the month where I share anything papery that takes my fancy, and invite you to do the same. This month, I’ve been enjoying reading, so I thought I’d talk about that and update you on my #BringBackPaper pledge activities.

OK, my pledge was to read 4 books a month this year, not including the ones I need to read for my History studies. I made it!

I read my first Lucy Diamond book, Summer at Shell Cottage, and I loved it. I’ll definitely be on the look out for more of hers this year. I then read a couple more Carole Matthews titles. I’d read some of her books last year and enjoyed them, so I was keen to try more. The Cake Shop in the Garden was a lovely read, and drew me in from the first pages. I found A Whiff of Scandal slower to get going and not as good as the others I’ve read. Then, having shared my current  ‘to be read’ pile last week, several people raved about The Shadow of the Wind so I got started on that one first and it has certainly not disappointed. It had so many layers and twists, I adored it. It’s difficult to describe, but I would say that you need to read it.

I also read couple of magazines, quite different in their subject matter…

Ah, from Julie Walters to cute little guinea pigs! I like reading magazines as they feel somehow indulgent and should always be accompanied by a cup of tea and maybe cake? They’re a little break in the week and fun to flick through.

As far as my other Pledge activities are concerned, I’ve not done too badly. My planner is updated every weekend, when I also do my meal planning for the week. I’ve sat down to some colouring just once so far, but that’s more than I’d done in a while, so I’ll keep looking to make time for that. My snail mail is also all up to date, something I do so enjoy doing. The hardest part of this pledge, as I’d suspected, is not buying more stationery until my supplies have run down a little. I did find myself in Paperchase earlier in the month, but I resisted and they even had writing sets in the sale – my Achilles heel!
