My Photos – Week 1

I’ll be learning to take better photos, with the help of guest bloggers in my ‘Learn With Me: Photography’ series. And you’re welcome to come along for the ride and link up your photos and fun with me 🙂

The first lesson is An Introduction to Photography 101, by Em at Snowing Indoors. I’ve read it, digested it, so now I need to actually go and do it!

Her 5 top tips almost lifted a weird shroud off this whole area for me. I’m not sure why, and until I started this, wasn’t even aware of it, but I found the whole thing quite daunting, very technical and a huge task. But Em told me to experiment and have some fun. So I have. I’ve discovered little buttons and options on my point and shoot camera that I didn’t know where there, and tried each and every one of them! I was surprised how much was there, really, and I have no idea why I’d never just done this before. Confidence, perhaps.

As for finding photography styles I like, that’s an easy one. There’s a reason I have these guest bloggers! And there are many, many more, so I’ve started up my photography Pinterest board to keep the inspiration coming.

Em also suggested I find a project, so I had a little think and it came to me. Regular readers will know about Project Garden, and a favourite weekly linky of mine is Mammasaurus’ How Does Your Garden Grow? The beautiful photographs I see over there are part of the inspiration behind this, so it seems very appropriate that my project would be connected, in some way. I have decided that I want to capture my garden in each month of this year, to see it’s changes through the seasons, and the children enjoying themselves out there. I’m hoping it’ll be interesting to look back on the year like this, and I’m certainly looking forward to doing  it.

I’ve given it my first shot today, while playing about with different shooting modes. And so begins my photography journey….

  2. What are you talking about these are absolutely stunning shots of your garden. I am impressed. You have just motivated me to get my camera out and learn something. We just moved into our house so there is no garden yet… but I am a huge fan of Mammasaurus blog and photos.

  3. I love the first photo, it is great! Having a project is such a brilliant idea. I am going to give myself a little challenge after looking at my Photography board on Pinterest for some more inspiration. I will try to join you soon with my photos! Mel

    1. Thank you. It had really driven me on, as it’s clear to me what I’m ‘working on’ and I’m enthusiastic about capturing it. Looking forward to seeing the project that you choose 🙂
