10 Tips to Get Your Blogging Mojo Back

I like to blog. I post regularly and my brain seems to be over-run with ideas. But this hasn’t always been the case, and I’m quite sure that I’ll hit a wall again at some point in the future, so I have a few methods that help me get back on track when that happens. If this happens to you, then here are my top 10 tips to get your blogging mojo back…10 Tips to Get Your Blogging Mojo Back

Get your blogging mojo back

1. Go back to your roots

What did you enjoy blogging about initially? What did you want to say?

When I get a little lost, I look back at my earliest posts and it puts me straight back into that frame of mind and helps me to more clearly see ideas for future posts.

2. Review something

Do you have a favourite book, toy, product, website that you’d like to shout about? Then shout!

I did this at the start of my blog on a couple of things, and one of them still gets me blog hits most days, as people are often searching for honest reviews.

3. Linkys

There are hundreds of them around! Mooch about until you find one, two, three, however many you need, to inspire you to write and join in.

I have a few regular ones that I join in with, and they really help to focus my mind on those particular topics. Equally, don’t get stuck in a rut with them – you don’t have to join in every single week or month if you’re no longer feeling it, so take a break or join in less often. Do check out 10 Tips for Participating in Blog Linkies.

4. Go do something that you enjoy & then write about it

A little me-time, a family trip out, browsing for new outfits, a favourite book, baking or cooking up a new recipe, whatever it may be, there’s bound to be an angle there that you can blog about.

5. Memes

These can be fun, and there are always a fair few circulating. If you like the look of one, you needn’t wait to be invited/tagged, just join in and share. Or, start your own! Some of my favourite posts have come from doing this.

6. Stumbleupon, Pinterest, the news, magazines – all are there with potential to inspire

A quote may strike you and get your cogs whirring, you might be fuming over something in the news or an article or photo may spin off a new thought process for you.

These are my go-to places when I fancy writing something different, that I perhaps wouldn’t have come up with alone.

7. It doesn’t have to be words, a photo can tell a story

It may be an old photo that you want to share, with or without a story, or something you took today. Have a look about, there’s bound to be tales to tell!

8. Mind map

This works well for me. I start with a totally blank page and I get writing and scribbling ideas down.

I might start with a theme, another post or category I’ve enjoyed writing about, a new item or subject, though I’ve not yet worked out how to incorporate it, they all get mapped!

Let your mind wander and don’t discount something as impossible or irrational, as this is about coming up with initial ideas that can then be shaped.

9. Write about what you love

Whether it be aspirational – a holiday you’d love to go on, your dream kitchen,or actual – a great day out or recent purchase, if you love it, you’ll write it.

10. Take a break

Simple as. Don’t force yourself to do something that you’re not enjoying. If the 9 tips above can’t get you excited about blogging again, stop and return in a week or two.

You should only do what makes you happy, so await that urge to blog again!

Hope these have helped? Is there a little mojo being kick-started again out there somewhere? Is this all helping to you to get your blogging mojo back? Look forward to reading…

  1. I have lots of ideas and things I’d love to write, but my problem is getting the time to sit down and do it. I have a list of posts I want to write and some in draft form, but with the baby awake all evening and the 2 year old who won’t stay in her bed (my eldest is awake this evening, to add to the mix!) it proves quite difficult doing anything in the evening and they don’t nap either! I’m trying to work round the problem though and am managing to keep up with a few linkys, which I agree is great to do if you’ve lost your mojo. Great post 🙂 x

    1. It’s so hard to do, and I find myself working flat out to fit everything in. Am looking at ways to work smarter not harder at the mo!

  2. Some great tips. I’ve only been blogging since the summer and only blog 2-3 times a week at the moment but still sometimes get stumped. I found it difficult to get back into blogging after a little break over Xmas and ended up taking about a month off. I’m back into it now and just don’t have enough time to blog as often as I’d like 🙂

    1. Ah, the eternal struggle! I spend all spare moments blogging/social media, which pretty much leaves me with zero time to relax!

  3. Great tips! I found a break and getting back to my roots really helped when I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by the blogging recently and wasn’t enjoying it quite as much. A bit of time away from the screen gave me more to write about too! 🙂 xx

  4. Agree with all the above – great post as usual! Good advice. I’m thinking you must be the kind of person for whom the blogging and social media-ing *is* a way to relax because otherwise you would surely be feeling burnt out?! I used to sell Phoenix cards once too and I know that can be a time consuming business if you are serious about trying to make money from it (I was rubbish at selling and gave it up!). X

    1. Thanks very much. I do get the odd burnt out moment, believe me, and I’m currently trying to find a better balance with it all – I’ve a few ideas that I’m working on. And yes, I’ve been delivering cards this very day, so yes, that takes up time, too! x

  5. Great ideas! Taking a break really helped me get back into it again, and not feeling like I had to blog in a certain way- mine’s such a mish-mash of stiff- work, parenting, writing. I used to feel bad about that and feel like it lacked focus but now I just see it as a little ‘me’ space on the ‘net rather than written for anyone else specifically!

  6. Such a relevent post for me at the moment. I think I got lost in the tide of blogging and forgot my original plan… back on track after a break and a clear year plan of direction now. Great post and fab tips, thank you. H x

  7. Great blog post – don’t forget that sometimes your readers can inspire you! One contacted me to ask why I hadn’t blogged for a while and that encouraged me to write.

  8. Great post and thanks for all the amazing TIPS, I can never have enough advice, tips, etc as I am so new to the blogging world. You should have a pin it badge on your green picture so we can pin your fabulous post to share on pInterest hun. This is a great one that would get shared by loads. 😉

  9. I’ve actually bookmarked this post on my phone as it’s one I can see myself coming back to time and time again, it’s a fantastic post filled with invaluable advice for every blogger, a must read!

  10. Lot’s of great ideas! I’m finding it’s time to write I’m short of at the moment, when I started I would write while breastfeeding, but now I’m not doing that anymore I struggle to find some time to blog! #MMWBH

  11. Although I am new to blogging, I found this very helpful. I find it hard to stay consistent, even though I have the world of ideas and countless unfinished drafts. Hopefully some of these ideas/suggestions can help me weather through it.
    Thanks a bundle 🙂
