Let’s Get Kids Writing Again with Got2Jot

Today’s #BringBackPaper post comes from Sarah over at Got 2 Jot, as she ponders the decline in thank you notes, and offers up a rather gorgeous give-away, too…

We never seem to have the time to sit down and write a thank you note anymore. Sending a text or even a Facebook message is considered the norm.

I’ve always loved stationery and so set up my own unique online stationery company, Got 2 Jot in a bid to woo children back to the old-fashioned art of letter writing.

I’ve scoured Britain, Europe and even Australia for the trendiest, most tempting notepaper, notebooks and pens that I could find, using my own two teenagers as official testers.

Like many parents I think it’s sad that written communication is becoming a dying skill in our children. They simply don’t know the thrill of writing on lovely, crisp new stationery, or the pleasure of receiving a handwritten letter in the post.

Thank you letters – or the lack of them – are my particular bugbear – and this applies to adults and children alike.

It’s all too easy for us to send a quick text or fire off an email to say thank you for a present or kind deed. Yet taking a few moments to write a letter or card is so much nicer for the recipient. A text is forgotten in seconds, but a thank you letter can sit on the mantelpiece and give pleasure for weeks.

I have teenagers of my own and I know how difficult it can be to prise them off their phones and laptops, but as parents we need to encourage them to use the power of the pen and instil the basics of good manners. Writing shouldn’t be seen as a chore, and giving fun stationery to send a special message will help to get kids writing again.

I am also convinced that stationery can be seen as fashion statement. Whether at work or school the perfect notebook or card reflects your personality and style.

I’ve loved creating and sourcing a range of products to reflect the Got 2 Jot mantra, which is ‘Spark your creativity, Express your style, Organise your life’. The range appeals to children and adults alike, with everything from the fun and funky to colourful and classy.

There are pens, pencil cases, journals, planners, notebooks, organisers and sticky notes. There’s a ‘My Listography’ book for list-crazy youngsters to write their favourite things, an ‘I can’t sleep’ journal for night-time inspiration, and ‘What I love about you’ notes with blanks for the sender to fill in.

Its National Stationery Week from 27th April and World Stationery Day on the 29th April so wouldn’t it be good to get our kids to just send a short note to a family member or friend that they can receive in the post? It will bring a smile to their face.

The full range can be seen at www.got2jot.co.uk and you can follow us on Facebook or Twitter for lots of new products and special offers.

Thanks, Sarah!

  1. I love that my parents encouraged me to write thankyou letters, although it takes quite a while to do them all for the toddler & baby as well as myself now! Will be nice when they can write them 😉 I like the tulip notebook 🙂
