She has received:

You Wouldn’t Want To Be A Victorian Servant! by Fiona MacDonald

You wouldnt want to be a victorian servant

Get ready… as a 12-year-old girl living in Britain in the 1880s, you are about to start work for a wealthy family. You will be busy all day long as a Victorian servant. This title can be used as a background approach to wider issues in Victorian times, such as class divides, daily life and the position of men and women. The humorous illustrations make learning fun, and encourage young readers to engage with the central servant character. Informative captions, a glossary and an index make this title an ideal and fun introduction to the conventions of non-fiction text.

Boo, aged 6, has absolutely loved every single one of these books. It’s been a pleasure seeing her so completely absorbed in each of them.

You Wouldn’t Want To Be a Victorian Servant! has been a brilliant way in to social history, as it puts her in the mind of a young girl and her life in Victorian times. I love my history and enjoy anything that helps the kids to engage with it, and I’d say of all the history books that I’ve bought Boo, this one has best captured her imagination. She was so keen to read it through, from start to finish, and is now talking about wanting some of the other titles in the series, of which there are several.

The Dragons and Magical Creatures Advanced Colouring book would be great for adults and children alike. Boo has made a start on it and I can see it lasting her for months. She adores colouring and the magical element really appeals to her. It is a beautiful book, hardback and well-presented and I can see it making a great gift. In addition to the colouring, there is also a key hidden on every double page spread that we have had fun finding.

Make Your Own Science Experiments has seen Boo getting very excited to try every single one out. She tells me that the flying sausage experiment is her favourite! They are all simple to do and use things that you are likely to have lying around the house, such as water, paper, paperclips and the like. It’s a fun book for bringing science into your home in an every day and accessible way.
