Eco-Friendly Days Out With Your Kids

This is a collaborative post

You’ll find a lot of us spend most of our winter sat in the house, living in big cities and not giving much thought to our eco footprint. At this time of year it’s too easy to jump in the car and head somewhere like the cinema or bowling when the kids are off school. So we’ve decided to show you some of the best ways you can, not only keep your kids entertained, but do your bit for the carbon footprint whilst you’re at it.

Jump on your bike or maybe your trike!

Cycling is a great way to get out into the great outdoors and get some country air in your lungs. It’s not hugely desirable at this time of year but there’s nothing better than a sunny winters day bike ride.

Trikes provide you and your kids with a little bit of extra stability when riding around and often have places you can put bags and other belongings as your ride along. There are some great folding tricycles from Jorvik Tricycles that can be easily folded away for easy storage at home. Your kids will love them and they’re safer than bikes when riding on unsteady ground that can occur in the colder months. If you’re lucky enough to have a route local to you, you don’t even need to take the car out.

Grab your walking boots

At this time of year, walking boots are probably needed but the countryside doesn’t shut down during winter. There’s some amazing walking spots around the country, particularly in the Yorkshire Dales.

You can head to a nearby pub and sit around a log fire as you eat some pub grub to give you a bit more energy for your walk. There’s ways you can make it more exciting for your kids by giving them a checklist to tick off things to look for whilst walking around. This can be anything from a car colour to different animals on the walk. The one who gathers the most, wins!

Visit a local farm

Farms are great for kids as they simply love seeing all the different animals on show. It’s also great because you’ll get to show support to local farms whilst you’re there, as the proceeds taken often get used to benefit the farms upkeep.

From feeding goats and laughing at the pigs, farms are often one of the best places you can take kids. There’s often more than just the animals with crafts events often on to keep them entertained.

Do you have any other suggestions for some great eco-friendly days out? Let me know in the comments below I’d love to hear any suggestions you have!
