Do Your Kids Have Cool Grandparents?

Do your kids have cool grandparents? Or do you? What makes them cool?

I’d say that my nan was pretty cool. She taught us how to play cards, and yes, we played for money. Big stakes, a penny a go! My brother and I used to love staying with her because she’d do those little things that we didn’t do at home, the out of the norm treats. Staying up that bit later, sharing a room when we stayed there, playing endless board games with us and taking us round to the local shop and buying us lots of sweets. Then there was the gambling, too! Yes, she was pretty cool.

Nowadays my children are very lucky as they have all four grandparents and they all dote on them. They each offer something a bit different, all cool in their own way. All of them treat them, play with them and contribute to their future with savings and pocket money. They like to share things with them, hobbies, skills and interests and I love seeing Little Man and Boo enjoying time with their grandparents. They love playing games with them and going on little trips out with them, the cinema, a restaurant, the park – it doesn’t really matter to my two, they are just happy to be spending time with their grandparents.

And speaking of cool, Shepherds Friendly have put together this fun step by step guide on how to be a cool grandparent…

What do you think? Are you a grandparent, are you nodding along to all of this and can call yourself cool?! It’s interesting to see that 72% of grandparents say that the role of being a grandparent is the single most important and satisfying thing in their life. There are a lot of fortunate grandchildren out there then.

With a little spontaneity, keeping up with the latest trends, finding your way around all tech and gadgets (my Little Man would be so impressed if his grandparents could play on the PS4 with him!), little treats, lots of laughs and saving for the future tax efficiently in something like a Young Savers Plan from Shepherds Friendly, you are all set!

So what’s the verdict, do your kids have cool grandparents?

  1. I’m not sure I’ll be the coolest Grandma. I’m 50 next year and my boys are only 11 and 9, so by the time I, hopefully, get to be Grandma I will be 70 and some so just hope to be a cozy, traditional grandparent. I lost my last grandparent when I was 12 but my two currently still have some of theirs.
