The Dawn Chorus by Suzanne Barton – Review

A beautiful book from Bloomsbury Publishing arrived for us a couple of weeks ago. Of course, the kids were delighted!, and I have to say, I really liked the look of it, too!

Peep awakes one morning to the sound of a beautiful song – but where is it coming from?

It’s the Dawn Chorus! And Peep is desperate to sing with them. But no matter how hard he tries, he just can’t make it happen. Little does Peep know, he’s just about to meet someone very special who will show him just how enchanting nightingales like him can be . . .

A heartfelt story, exceptionally illustrated by exciting new author-illustrator Suzanne Barton.

Boo and I do love Peep. He is such a cute little thing, and he tries so hard to be a part of the Dawn Chorus. He is a natural singer, so it makes sense for him to attempt it, but getting there at dawn just seems to elude him. There is a good reason for that, of course.

The illustrations in this book are just so beautiful, and so sweet. I love the colours and the characters. It’s a good book to use to talk about different types of birds, which complements our nature walk chats very well. A lovely bedtime read, and one that Boo has been selecting a lot lately.

Thanks to Bloomsbury for sending us a copy to review.

  1. Aw this takes me back to my days as a reviewer of children’s books when I wrote and edited a commercial children’s book website – but such a long time ago now if feels like another lifetime. How do you get to be a reviewer nowadays – did you personally approach publishers? X
