Chase Zurg – One For Toy Story Fans!

Little Man absolutely loves Toy Story. He watches the films regularly and plays with the toys pretty much every day. It’s a very rare day here that Woody isn’t bouncing around me as I cook the dinner! So when I spotted the Chase Zurg game from Megableu, I knew we had to give it a go…

Turn down the lights and prepare yourself to become the best galaxy warrior!Eliminate them all : Buzz Lightyear turns around and projects the head of Zurg on the wall for a short period of time. The player to blast the most ZURG’ heads will WIN THE GAME!

Setting Up:

It was refreshingly easy to get this one out of it’s packaging, and that was with ‘help’ from a 2 year old. The instruction booklet was easy to follow, the only drawback came with the amount of batteries that it needed, which were not included, so do make sure that you get some in for this as between the gun and the spinning Buzz, it needs 7 batteries.

Game Play:

Buzz Lightyear needs to be placed on a hard surface, with room to spin around. There are three different speed settings, so you can alter the pace of the game to suit different ages and abilities. Buzz then rotates and projects an image of Zurg onto the walls and ceiling for you to shoot it. One turn last for 90 seconds.

You really need to play this one is a dark room, for you to be able to see Zurg flashing around you. We usually play it up in Little Man’s room, with the blind down, which all adds to the excitement of the game.

Playing Chase Zurg

There is a reload button on the gun which needs pressing every six shots fired, that purple one on top, which is easy enough to do and remember when I’m playing, but something I need to keep reminding the kids about as they get over-excited and forget! And then as you see there, the amount of times you managed to shoot Zurg is recorded on the gun at the end of your turn. The gun’s nice and lightweight, the trigger easy enough for my toddler to press.

Here’s a short clip of Buzz in action, so you get a better idea of how it works. I’ve filmed it in a lighter room so you can see it properly, and even in this light, you’ll still see that the Zurg is easy to spot on the walls (though not that easy to actually film!). I’ve not got the kids shooting in this one as well, as the mayhem would mean you can’t see how it actually works! Close up, the Zurg image is really sharp, too, it’s just very difficult to capture on film.

The Verdict:

This is a really fun game. It is actually as good as I’d hoped it would be from the description, too, which isn’t always the case with new toys. The recommended age is 5+, but Little Man at nearly 3, does enjoy this and is able to understand the game and play it, though remembering the reload often eludes him. It’s also worth mentioning that Zurg does also laugh during game play, which can be a little scary, especially as they’re in the dark, so again I see why the 5+ suggestion.

I like that it’s a game that requires no set up and every single time that they play it, there are endless screams and giggles coming from the room, so it’s definitely a hit. Little Man can play it alone or with his big sister, so I do like the flexibility allowing him to play whenever he feels like it. It’s also quite unlike anything else that they have, and shooting Buzz’s gun is always going to be popular, isn’t it?! My only gripe is the amount of batteries it needs. Fortunately, we’ve yet to need to replace them, so I’m hoping they last a while.

A fun, fast-paced game. Definitely one for all Toy Story fans!

  1. Wow, this looks like a proper exciting game, and something any Toy Story fan would love. It is a shame about the amount of batteries. I have found that with a lot of toys recently. Looks great though and like he is having a ball! 🙂 #triedtested
