The Blog Lowdown – Twinderelmo

Today on The Blog Lowdown, I’m pleased to be bringing you the lovely Beth, from Twinderelmo

Please Introduce yourself:
My name is Beth. I’m in my late 20s and live in Shropshire which is sort of in the middle of the Midlands and the Welsh border. I am married and have a 5 year old and identical 15 and a half month old twin girls. I took voluntary redundancy after my maternity leave so I’m one of those stay at home Mom types!

When did you start blogging?
Originally I dipped my toe and set up my blog last August. I did a few posts from October until January but really started blogging properly since June this year.

Tell us a little about your blog
My blog is a rather eclectic mix. Originally, most of my posts were documenting my twins milestones etc but after a very tough April it has become a place to blog my feelings sprinkled with a bit of humour, few ranty pet hates and clothes and make up. It’s predominantly all about my children so I definitely would say I fall into the ranks of “Mummy bloggers”

Who designed your blog?
After failing abysmally myself, I had a layout from Etsy which I adore. Simple yet so pretty

Which of your posts have been the most popular? Are there certain types that get more interest?
My first really popular post was me admitting that I can’t sew. Or cook. Or clean! Being a parent is hard. When you’re having a bad day and scraping cereal, baby puke and sudocrem out of your hair when you log on to read a few posts you don’t want to continually read about how perfect and easy parenting is. Call me cynical but it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who permanently looks like they have been burgled and buy my kids birthday cakes from Asda!

How do you promote your blog posts, and which methods do you find to be most successful?
Predominantly it’s Twitter. I do have Facebook and Pinterest but Twitter is the place I spend most of my time and post the link to a new post maybe once in the morning and once at night? I try not to make my whole Twitter timeline about my blog. I’ve had Twitter since 2009 and the bulk of my friends there I made before blogging so don’t want to forget about them and become an annoying blog robot.

Which linkys do you most enjoy joining in with/reading?
I always join in with My Sunday Photo with OneDad3Girls and Wicked Wednesdays with BrummyMummyof2. I also love Tried and Tested with Family Fever, Let Kids Be Kids with KarenAtTwinLife and Country Kids with CoombeMill. But the last 3 are only if I have suitable posts! I too have joined in a couple of times with your good host here’s Word of the Week. I am going to try to become a regular as it’s such a lovely concept and idea to reflect on your week.

When are your busiest days on the blog, and why? (if you know why!)
Usually Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Busy for me and also busy traffic back. This is usually because a lot of my favourite linkys open on these days so I like to get round lots of posts on these days.

Can you name 3 things that blogging has brought you?
1) a focus/hobby – after giving up my job whilst it’s lovely being home with my children, it’s also nice to still put computing and brain (!) skills to something. It’s nice to have something to feel is yours and I’m proud of my little blog.
2) some awesome people – there are some pretty lovely folk out there in the rather large and daunting world of blogging. So far I’ve not experienced any negativity and it’s lovely that people have been so helpful – especially from the bigger blogs. I’m very very small fish so it’s nice that they offer help.
3) a range of emotions – reading my timeline in one swipe of my finger I have blogs to read that are wet your pants hilarious or sob your heart out heartbreaking. Other blogs can pick you up when you’re down, offer a lifeline of help when you need it or just stick a great big smile on your face

5 fab tips for bloggersMy Top Tips for Bloggers:
1) Step away from the stats!
Everyone says this but when you stop caring as much is when you really do start to enjoy it!
2) write what YOU want
I have a certain type of posts that get so many more hits than others but I will always write what I feel like at that time. It makes me happy so I will continue
3) Utilise social media
I have found so many new fabulous blogs via Twitter. Not only that but I’ve made some fab friends from there too
4) Photos
I love photos and I think it makes a blog post. The more the better I feel as a reader
5) Write about what you know
There’s nothing worse than reading blogs where it feels forced and that people are writing for either a company or trying to boost their readers. Be true to yourself!
