The Blog Lowdown – Life With Munchers

Today on The Blog Lowdown, I’m delighted to be hosting Mummy Muncher, from Life With Munchers

Please Introduce yourself:
I’m Mummy Muncher (only now have I realised how, ahem, wrong that sounds!) and I blog over at Life With Munchers.

When did you start blogging?
I started blogging in September 2013, so fairly new to the world of blogging (but hooked already!)

Tell us a little about your blog
Life With Munchers is about modern family living. I want to rid the parenting world of stereotypes and pigeon holing. So you can expect to read ‘be yourself’ parenting posts, affordable home and styling posts and tips for organising your home to save time. You can also find the odd blog icon and other fun things, as I’m a bit of a self taught ‘designer’ (I use the term loosely), so whatever I make, I share!

Who designed your blog?
I tweaked an off the shelf theme and had my friend design my logo. I made my social media icons and various other bits on there. I’m never happy with it though!

Which of your posts have been the most popular? Are there certain types that get more interest?
It’s Sod’s law that the ones you put lots of effort into aren’t as popular as those quick ones. Certainly my ‘quick hairstyles’ series was and still is very popular. The Elf on the Shelf series, which I did together with the lovely Jocelyn, was also a big hit. Day to day though I find My Sunday Photo is consistently the most popular.

How do you promote your blog posts, and which methods do you find to be most successful?
I get a lot of traffic from Pinterest. I find it worthwhile spending an extra 5 minutes to make a bespoke image for Pinterest to drive traffic to the post, especially if it’s a tutorial post.
Coming from a marketing background I know I should spend more time on twitter building relationships, but I’m not all too great at practicing what I preach (my bad).

Which linkys do you most enjoy joining in with/reading?
Time is my worst enemy, so I’m a big fan of joining in on My Sunday Photo (onedad3girls) and Silent Sunday (Cosmicgirlie), as well as The Ordinary Moments (mummydaddyme).
As I’m a big fan of organising, I take part in Jen’s monthly link up at I heart Organizing (A US blog). If I have a relevant post each week, I also enjoy ‘Parenting Pin It Party’ (JBmumofone)

When are your busiest days on the blog, and why? (if you know why!)
There is no rhyme or reason at times, but a Sunday is consistently busy. I put this down to me joining in with 3 linkies on that day.

Can you name 3 things that blogging has brought you?
It has brought me a creative outlet! The chance to debate hot topics and thirdly a fantastic bunch of likeminded and hilarious people who are always there and rock my world (you know who you are!)

5 top tips to make your blog reader-friendlyMy top five tips are:
1. Interact! Build relationships with readers and likeminded people and bloggers. Which leads me to…
2. Make it easy for readers to comment. Captcha….no! Instead install a good spam plug in and if you are on blogger, name/URL option pretty please.
3. Don’t alienate readers. Check google analytics to see what browsers and devices people read your blog on and make sure it works on those that are the most popular.
4. Categorise, categorise, categorise! Make your blog easy to navigate by categorising and using drop down menus.
5. Connect! Make your social media links easy to find on your blog. Don’t hide them away.

My Social Media Links:

Thanks very much! Those tips are spot on, too, for making your blog more reader-friendly. I loathe Captcha!

If you’ve any questions for Mummy Muncher, feel free to comment on this post, and she’ll pop by and check in. Next week, we will be hearing from Carol over at Virtually All Sorts so be sure to pop by for that on Sunday evening. You can catch up the previous posts from other bloggers here, too, if you’ve missed them.

If you’d like to feature on The Blog Lowdown, just get in touch with me at [email protected]. Posts are booked up for the next few weeks, but I’ll be happy to book you in as soon as there’s an available slot 🙂

To ensure you don’t miss any, you can now sign up for my newsletter, and I’ll always include The Blog Lowdown round up in those.

  1. A really interesting post! I should really spend more time working on photos aimed at Pinterest users. I love that platform but have not exploited it fully myself yet. I agree 100% with you on the subject of Captcha. I find it absolutely awful, and such a waste of time! Mel
