Amelia and Nanette: Sparkly Shoes and Picnic Parties by Sophie Tilley – Review

Boo was particularly excited by the book we received from Bloomsbury Kids in the post the other day. She loves stories about girls and their friendships, and the promise of picnics and sparkly shoes further tempted her!

Amelie and Nanette are best friends, and have been FOREVER. Because there is nothing nicer than having a best friend to share your secrets and adventures with.

Everyone will be charmed by the wonderfully nostalgic, delightfully innocent and enchantingly carefree world of Amelie and Nanette. Their lives are rich with adventure, sometimes good, sometimes bad (and sometimes a little sad) but always mixed with laughter. From riverside picnics and seaside capers to cake-baking marathons and dressing-up, there’s an adventure around every corner. And, even when things go wrong, there’s nothing so awful that their friendship (and a big hug) can’t make better.

Includes a beautiful stationery set – with both note paper and envelopes – just perfect for writing secret letters to your very best friend!

This is a beautifully illustrated tale of friendship and fun. Each of the girls have a new item – sparkly shoes and a pretty dress – that they are eager to share with one another, and show them off at a lovely picnic that they set up. But, then the dog arrives – cue chaos! All is well in the end, though, as they are the best of friends.

It’s quite long for a picture book, which suits Boo perfectly well, at 4, and she enjoys turning every page and taking every element of the scene before her in, whilst listening to the story. Each page is a visual feast, and I find myself pausing to take it in when I should be reading aloud! The addition of the sweet little stationery set at the back of the book just rounded this off wonderfully, and Boo was delighted to find it! In fact, she set about writing a letter to her Daddy on it straight-away.

We already have some of Sophie Tilley’s Princess Evie books, which we enjoy, so we now have a new love of this series to explore, and we will be getting more!

  1. Oh how lovely that you get a stationery set included! It’s hard to tell with picture books how long they’re going to be so this is probably one for LP in a year or so, she isn’t the best at holding her concentration just yet! x
