A Welcoming Christmas Entrance

I’ve got most of my shopping done, the cards are written, the elf is in play, so now it’s time to get the house looking fabulous and Christmassy, and get going on our Christmas countdown activities.

We have an artificial tree here, which comes down from the loft each year, we’ve a whole raft of decorations that accompany it, and we indulged and bought some new tree baubles from John Lewis this year, too – they do look cute! Advent calendars are up and I have bunting and ribbons at the ready for keeping our cards from grabbing little hands!

But what about the entrance to our home? What would passers-by make of our festive decor? Not much, truth be told! It’s the area that has had the least thought in previous years, but I’m changing that this year. I want the outside to tell the world that we’re getting into the Christmas spirit, too, and for it to make for a warm welcome for our visitors. I’ve been pinning over on Pinterest, so you can see all of my ideas there, along with links to the sites that inspired me, and here’s my mood board..

Christmas Entrance

I love the idea of twinkly lights around our doorway, as I think they look really pretty, but also because Boo loves spotting lights at this time of year, so it’d be nice to have them ourselves. The children clearly need a ‘Santa Stop Here’ message – what if we hadn’t got one?! And then I think a gorgeous festive wreath, some decorative pots and a warm, fun, welcoming doormat from Turtle Mat would complete the look. It’d look seasonal and friendly, and it’d make us smile every time we arrived home, too!

So, I guess I need to start actually doing this next, right?! How about you? Do you ‘Christmas up’ the entrance to your home. too?

  1. Time waits for no mum

I love that fabric wreath! I think I’m a bit late to the party this year but maybe next year I’ll make my own wreath…

  2. We have a wreath and some snowflake stickers on our door window but still haven’t progressed to fairy lights, maybe next year. I love that you can build up your decorations every year. I love the Santa stop here message 🙂
