Word of the Week 8/7/16

Hello and welcome to Word of the Week!

If you’re new here, Word of the Week is a nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. You reflect back on the past week and sum it up in one word. Then share your word with us in a blog post, with as little or as much explanation as you like. It’s a fun and friendly linky, so please do be lovely and visit as many of the other blogs as you can and share with them your thoughts on their words and weeks. I do comment on every entry to the linky, and if you add the Word of the Week badge to your post to help spread the ‘word’, I also tweet them out.

My word of the week this week is:

Harry wotw july

OK, I have to just say before I go on to talk about ‘Harry’ that I have just found out I passed my Open University module with a Distinction, an actual Distinction! Puts me on course for a First. So yeah, felt I needed to mention it as I’m pretty chuffed with that 😉 Right, back to ‘Harry’…

Over the weekend we took the kids to The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour. I shared more about our time there yesterday, but suffice it to say that it was a hit with them! I’ve been reading the Harry Potter books with Boo at bedtimes, and they have so quickly captured her imagination. They are brilliant books, and I’m enjoying reading them again and rediscovering their magic with my daughter. In the run up to our visit, we’ve shown Little Man snippets of the films to give him a feel for it and to spark his imagination. It meant he was very excited, too!

Since our return, my son has been dressing up as Harry daily, and every afternoon when Boo comes home from school, they both play ‘Harry Potter’, which is totally adorable and thoroughly entertaining as an onlooker. Little Man has also asked to be read Harry Potter at bedtime, too, so we’re on The Philosopher’s Stone with him. Seems a bit early, but he’s keen!

And ‘Harry’ is also the word for me this week, as our dog Harry had to be put down this coming week a year ago. I can’t really believe it’s been a whole year since then. He has been on my mind a lot this week with the anniversary looming. I still miss his little face and soft, droopy ears. May he be resting in peace.

What about you? What one word sums up your week best?

Please grab the badge, link up and share.

  1. Well done on the results! So deserved 🙂 it’s so lovely when little ones get into something so much and Harry Potter is an amazing one. My mum loved the world – I need to go! Hope you not feeling to sad about your little dog. Lovely memories but bet you miss him. Thanks for hosting xx

  2. Such good news on your results, very well deserved. The last year has gone so quickly since your Harry went, it’s good that you have the memories & photos.
Enjoy your (no doubt) Harry Potter filled weekend x

  3. Well done on getting a distinction on your latest OU module. The Harry Potter tour sounds amazing and glad you all enjoyed it and that you are rediscovering the magic of the books through reading them with Boo. Love the sound of her and Little Man playing Harry Potter together soon. Hope that the anniversary of losing Harry isn’t too hard a day for you. Thanks for hosting #WotW

  4. Congratulations on the Distinction result! So happy you have the reading time with your children. I still remember that with my Mom and a bowl of apple slices every night in bed. I know you miss your Harry. Thanks for all your wonderful posts.

  5. Congratulations! You have every right to be proud about that. My husband also marks for the OU and I help him by encoding the marks on their system, every time I type in a high mark I always wonder if it’s yours (you can’t see the names, only their numbers). Apparently, a lot of the tutors said that marks were really bad this year (my husband had the same sentiment)… so well done to you! 🙂 … Would love to go to the Harry Potter Studio tours too 🙂

    1. Thanks! Oh, I wonder if your husband marked mine?! I’ve just seen the exam results break down, and yes, it seems it was a tough one! There was only 1% of us scoring as I did – must have been lucky on my questions! 🙂 x

  6. Well done on your distinction, amazing news! As for Harry, well I’m just so jealous. Can’t wait to read about the tour. Both hubby and I are huge fans so when the kids are a bit bigger we will definitely be visiting 🙂 #wotw

  7. Well done on your result, that fab! Harry Potter is just so amazing isn’t it. I actually started reading the books again last night, it’s been a while since I read them. I can’t wait to share them with Boo – I hope she will love them as much as I do.
I hope that the anniversary of Harry’s passing isn’t too hard for you all.

  8. Congratulations on your Distinction, how fantastic! How wonderful that both your kids are loving Harry Potter, mine always have very different tastes so it can mean arguments over books at bedtimes. Also, I’m so sorry you are missing your dog Harry, our pets become every much a part of our family as everyone else and they leave big holes when they go xxx

  9. Firstly congrats on your distinction !!!! I can’t wait until my two are big enough to listen to and read Harry Potter I might put them on my re-read list for later this year.

Losing a dog is so hard, my beautiful white boxer Cassie died 7 years ago and I still miss her terribly and still can’t bring myself to get another dog, they bring so much love & joy to your life don’t they.

    1. Thanks! Oh, I doubt my son really is old enough, but I’m not going to turn him down when he’s so interested! It is, sorry to hear you’re missing your Cassie, too. Thank you x

  10. Yay! Congrats on the Open University distinction! Well done you!
Ahh! We love Harry Potter here….I actually said on my summer bucket list we’re going to watch all of the films over the holidays! hehehe
It really doesn’t seem like a year since you lost your Harry! Sending love and hugs x

  12. Well done! A distinction is amazing. Hope you will be celebrating in style?! We have yet to do the Harry Potter tour. My eldest has always shunned fiction and never got into Harry Potter, but my youngest is a complete bookworm and is working her way through the series at the moment having seen the films first. We have promised to book a tour there over the summer holidays which are looming large of course! Thanks for sharing details on the tour too. It’s always good to get a first hand view of these places as some are never as good as they seem. #wordoftheweek

  13. Congratulations on the distinction all the hard work was worth it!
Sounds like your children enjoying Hurry Potter, haven’t read the books in the years. I guess your excited about the new Potter book being released X #wotw

  14. Congratulations may you go on to get that first you wish for. Sounds like you had a brilliant time at the Harry Potter Studio Tour. Thanks for hosting #WotW

  15. Huge congratulations your results are amazing, and as for Harry Potter I am such a geek, we have visited the studios here, and at Orlando and Alnwick castle where it was first filmed. I LOVE Harry Potter, if fact I nearly cried at Universal I was so excited much to Chris and the boys embarrassment ha ha, and wow cant believe it has been a year since you lost Harry that has flown, its so hard loosing a much loved pet xx

  16. Congratulations on your results! Glad you’re getting into Harry Potter as a family – we are too, since my son read it at school. Sorry to hear about your dog, they become so much a part of the family xx Thanks for hosting #WotW
