Word of the Week 4/11/16

Hello and welcome to Word of the Week!

If you’re new here, Word of the Week is a nice and simple weekly linky, with everyone welcome to pop by and share. You reflect back on the past week and sum it up in one word. Then share your word with us in a blog post, with as little or as much explanation as you like. It’s a fun and friendly linky, so please do be lovely and visit as many of the other blogs as you can and share with them your thoughts on their words and weeks. I do comment on every entry to the linky, and if you add the Word of the Week badge to your post to help spread the ‘word’, I also tweet them out.

My word of the week this week is:

costly

Ah yes, it’s been a costly one!

A week or so ago I’d barely even thought about Christmas, but over the last week I’ve bought over half of all of our Christmas shopping, which has certainly given the credit card a beating! In addition to this, I’ve bought both my mum and my mum-in-laws birthday presents as they’re both November birthdays and my brother-in-law’s December birthday present. Then there’s some of Little Man’s and Boo’s friends birthdays coming up, along with a few other friends, so all of their cards and presents are now sorted.

We have an exciting trip to London next weekend including a trip to Kidzania, which has meant booking trains, and of course they are costly!

As if that wasn’t enough, we have also booked a break for early January to give us all something to look forward to post-Christmas. This will be a surprise for the kids and part of their Christmas presents. Oh, and yes, the Husband and I are also going away with my brother and his wife in February so we’ve been arranging that. Then there’s the small matter of next year’s summer holiday so I have been looking at flights and accommodation for that – not yet spent, but looking costly!!

I can feel the need for a more frugal week next week so I’d best stay away from the internet and the shops!

What about you? What one word sums up your week best?

Please grab the badge, link up and share.

  1. I hear you. A week or so ago, we booked tickets to see Matilda in London and since we’ll be travelling all the way from Cornwall, that meant a night’s stay there too! Haven’t bought any Christmas presents yet, but I usually buy them end of November during the sales. Sounds like you guys have planned exciting holidays next year too 🙂 #wotw

  2. It’s an expensive time of year isn’t it! I’ve started some of the Christmas shopping but still have a lot left to do. Kidzania sounds amazing and love the sound of an early January break to beat the post-Christmas blues. Thanks for hosting #WotW 🙂

  3. It certainly is that time of year. My Grandmother used to have everything ready and wrapped by July. I think she bought in the January sales, when they still existed. I’ve started buying and making, but more to do. Each year I say I’ll keep it simple and then lose my nerve! #wotw

  5. Eekk your card must be burning a hole in your pocket eh? Costly stuff but all so exciting. I always think with this you only live once! Important to have fun and be happy. I’ve done some Christmas shopping too! Thanks for hosting xx

  6. I think I can relate, having bought a lot of my Christmas presents too.. finally grabbing a couple of Hatchimals in the process. We also have the wedding in 3 weeks time, phew, my poor bank account.

  7. Oh my goodness I bet those tills are ringing in your ears, it’s certainly an expensive time of the year. We have lots of birthdays coming up and the balance of our holiday to pay off it’s never ending. I’m taking a little break from WotW this week but still reading what everyone else has been up to.

  8. Sometimes you have weeks like that don’t you? But at least (fingers crossed) it’s not on boring but essential stuff, this kind of spending sounds quite fun, well until the bill comes in 😉 Thanks for hosting, have a lovely weekend x

  9. Eeek that does all sound costly – but at least you are organised for Christmas. I haven’t done a thing yet! It’s not like me but I’m finding it hard as my kids are getting older. Plus, it’s my birthday today, and I do like to get all the birthdays out of the way before I can start thinking of Christmas (that’s my excuse!) #WotW
