We’ve Thomas the Tank’d Our Table

We have an Ikea Lack table in Boo and Little Man’s playroom that has started to get a little battered and chipped. It’s served it’s time well, so I’m not complaining. I’m actually surprised it’s still looking as good as it is, the punishments it’s taken over the last couple of years! I saw a great blog post recently on making it in to a Lego Table, and that does remain the plan, but while Little Man is still small and enjoying putting things into his mouth, Lego’s still a no-go for a few months. So, in the meantime, I thought we’d have a go at sprucing it up and injecting new life into an old table!

Here it is! It only took the two magazines, and it could just as easily have been CBeebies magazines that we used, but Boo has recently been Thomas obsessed, and we were given these free when we enjoyed our day at Thomasland and saw King of the Railway. I tore up pieces from the magazines, while the husband and Boo, armed with glue sticks, got cracking. And after about 20 minutes, we had it covered, and then added a coat of clear varnish and it was done.

I’d seen some decopatching and really fancied having a go, though I know you’re supposed to work with smaller patches, and the husband and Boo lacked the patience for that. It’s much more of a collage! I do like the overall effect, though, and the children are happy enough with it. I think it’ll serve it’s purpose until we’re ready to Lego it up – clever, versatile, little table 🙂

  1. OMG! Thats awesome!!!!! We also have a little table with matching chairs that are beyond battered and could do with a spruce up! I feel some decopatching coming up. Thanks for sharing! X

  2. This is such a great idea! I love it 🙂 Milin loves Thomas the Tank Engine. I think we might do something similar to our table! I need easy peasy craft projects too – not the most creative mummy on the block! Thanks for the inspiration xx
