How to Make a Trip to the Library Fun for Kids

The libraries we have today are so much different than libraries a few years ago. Gone are the dull and boring image and the mostly-quiet reading rooms; they are being replaced by a vibrant collection of books and a wide range of extra facilities. Libraries now serve more functions and offer anything from digital books to access to high-speed internet. So, is taking children to the library a good idea? The answer is most definitely YES. There are great activities and other resources that kids will enjoy. Some libraries even have a dedicated corner for children, complete with fun events Read more >

Come Join the #BringBackPaper Club!

You may have spotted that I ran a pen pal sign up here recently. Well, it went down very well and I have to say I was a little surprised by just how many people did sign up for it. I’d imagined I would be receiving five or six people looking for pen pals, but it was a lot more than that! So much so that it did take me a few hours more than I’d anticipated to match everyone up, double check and then triple check that it all worked, before emailing everyone with their new pen pal details. A Summer Of Reading Awaits!

On average, I’d say I read 4-6 books a month. But as summer looms, I can see my summer of reading beckoning me and I’m getting excited. As I study from September to June each year, I do have limited time to read, hence only getting through one book every few days to a week. Then as soon as my module finishes, my summer of books can begin. As I shared yesterday, I have just finished it, hooray! So here is my current to be read pile. I’d say this is actually around a third of the books I have to Read more >

Brilliant Books for Young Boys

Brilliant Books for Young Boys

With my son starting school this September, I’ve started to build up a fun chapter book collection for him as he starts to learn to read. I am passionate about encouraging a love of reading in my children and arguably more so with my youngest than my daughter. She devoured books from birth, whereas my son has to be in the mood to pick up books during the day. He loves his bedtime stories every evening and we have recently started reading him chapter books, and it’s great to see how excited he is by them. I am very aware that Read more >

Superb Books for 7 Year Olds

Early last year I wrote Brilliant Books for 5 Year Olds Girls, where I shared some of my daughter’s favourite books and recommended reads. Well, my girl has now turned 7, so today I thought I’d take you through some superb books for 7 year olds. Firstly, I would point you in the direction of that first post, as many of those books, particularly the non-fiction reads, are still being very much enjoyed here. Book Recommendations for Autumn

As the colder months draw in, it’s got to be the perfect time to snuggle down with a good book and a cuppa. With that in mind, I thought that today I’d have a nosy through my book journal and share with you some of my favourite reads from the past year or so. They’re an eclectic bunch of books, so I’m hoping there’s something for everybody here, though I have to say, I didn’t design it to be quite such a mix of genres, it just fell that way as I looked back on the books that I’ve loved Read more >

Books That I Need

Now, the Husband would tell you that I don’t need any more books for the foreseeable future. He’s completely wrong, of course. Yes, I have a to-be-read pile of around 20 books at the moment sitting on my shelves, but really that’s only a couple of really good months of reading and then where will I be?
