Pirates at the National Forest Adventure Farm

We spent Saturday, our first day of the summer holidays, at the National Forest Adventure Farm. It is a firm favourite family day out of ours, so we were looking forward to visiting and checking out this summer’s activities around the pirates theme.

We took a picnic and ate on arrival as once the kids know we’ve got a picnic, they have to eat it immediately. Do all children do this? On the plus side, it saved us from having to carry it around! There are loads of picnic benches scattered all over the place, and there are also restaurants on site that we’ve eaten at before and are very reasonably priced.

Along with the great stuff that’s always there, such as tractor and barrel rides and pony grooming, this summer it’s all about pirates. Which means there are three different pirate stage shows each day, including a bit of pirate training at Buccaneer Bootcamp, and pirate activities such as Cannonball Chaos, Pirates of the Maize Maze, Pirate Penny’s Mini Maze and a Pirate Duck Race. Yes, our children now know how to be pirates, from sweeping the deck to walking the plank, they know it!

We love that maze! We always go for the mini maze which is perfect for my two, but there is a much larger maze if you fancy more of a challenge. In ours, we had to find six stamping stations which was fun, and the kids then received stickers and lollies for completing it.

The play areas at the farm are great for kids to burn off some energy. Our two headed straight to the bouncing pillows, before going to the sandpits, then onto the huge indoor soft play area, then back out to the football targets and the assault course area. To be honest, there was enough there to keep them occupied all day, without the animals and activities!

Of course, we also strolled around the paddocks and explored the barn. They have ponies, donkeys, alpacas, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, and I’ve probably forgotten something else, but suffice to say, there’s plenty to see! A highlight of the day for us was watching the sheep race, lots of fun!

We had a brilliant day out, as we always do. We’ve been to the National Forest Adventure Farm several times before, so to find out more about it and check out our other visits, click here.

Now, I know that I always seem to say this about our visits, but I am always impressed with the cleanliness of the site, the friendliness of every single member of staff and the amount of things to do there. They seem to have thought of everything to make it an easy and fun family day out and I am always recommending it to friends and family. So if you’re going to be around the Midlands this summer and are looking for a family day out, then do check out the National Forest Adventure Farm.

Disclosure: We received entry FOC for the purposes of this post, but all words and opinions are my own
