Mysteries in Time Review

I spotted Mysteries in Time on Twitter recently and it immediately grabbed my attention. With a daughter with a thirst for knowledge, me as a history student, and both of us loving books, activities and exciting post, it seemed to be right up our street. I’m pleased to say that I wasn’t wrong, as Boo has received her first box, so here’s our unboxing vlog of it along with our review.

Mysteries in Time box

What’s it all about?

Mysteries in Time is ‘an adventure through history’, created by a primary school teacher to encourage a passion for history.

Mysteries in Time is a monthly educational subscription box for children, designed to bring history to life for 7-11 year olds.

Each month, subscribers receive a time machine postal box packed with high-quality, fun, educational activities for children, all linked to a different period in history.

In the story, Max & Katie mysteriously receive a time machine, world map with timeline and other fun activities through the post. Your child can feel like they are part of Max and Katie’s adventure as they travel back in time to solve a fictional mystery in a different place in history each month.

Through a combination of fiction, non-fiction, a craft and fun puzzles, children will gain a solid understanding of a different historical time each month, while being inspired to love history!

The boxes are aimed at 7-11 year olds and there are two Mysteries in Time boxes available:
Bumper Box – as reviewed here, £12.95 + £2.95 UK postage or the Classic Pack – as reviewed but minus the craft and the collectible, £7.95 + £0.95 UK postage.

The Unboxing

Here we have Boo unboxing it for you, with our initial reactions and thoughts and so you can get a good look at everything included…

What’s included?

Here is everything included in the Mysteries in Time box, with the Ancient Egypt theme..

Mysteries in Time Ancient Egypt

There’s a welcome leaflet that details the activities to do and the craft instructions, the book ‘Max and Katie’s Egyptian Adventure’ which is central to the box, the map with timeline, 3 colouring sheets, facts and activity booklet of several pages, pencil crayons, bookmark, stickers, hieroglyph card, craft kit including paints, paintbrush, stickers and clay, and a keepsake.

The box revolves around Max and Katie’s adventures, as will all subsequent boxes. Boo has enjoyed reading this story herself and it’s given her a real enthusiasm to complete the activities as she feels part of the team with Max and Katie. Many of the items included within the box are mentioned in the story, which helps to bring it all to life.

The History and Facts booklet includes 7 pages of facts, broken up into bite-size chunks with illustrations, a quiz page and 2 pages of activities such as spot the difference, wordsearch and anagrams.

There is also a map and timeline included in this first box that will continue to be used in conjunction with all other Mysteries in Time boxes going forward.

The Verdict

Mysteries in Time claims that through the box ‘children will gain a solid understanding of a different historical time each month, while being inspired to love history’ and I do feel that they have delivered. Ancient history isn’t a favourite of mine, but I have enjoyed learning alongside Boo and she really has taken so much of it in. It’s all about immersing yourselves in the history, with the mystery, crafts and puzzles, which I think is likely to be remembered and understood as well as being a lot of fun to do.

There is a lot included in the box, all good quality and original. I can see this being a really exciting parcel to receive monthly, for kids and history enthusiasts alike. Boo has asked for a Mysteries in Time subscription for her birthday, which gives you an idea of how much she has enjoyed this first box.

Reader Offer!! Quote READING20 and this will give you 20% off your first box.

What do you think of Mysteries in Time? Could it be something for your children to enjoy?
