Little Man Wakes…

Little Man still sleeps in a cot. Unlike his big sister, he can’t jump out of bed in the morning and come and clamber into bed with us. I love these morning cuddles with Boo, but I also love the way that Little Man wakes up.

He doesn’t cry, or even shout out, as Boo used to. No, I can just tell that he’s woken as I hear him rustling about in there a bit more. He’s quietly waking for the day. Some mornings when I go in, he’s just lying there, silently looking at me, clutching his little taggie blanket. A little smile spreads across his face. I love it. And then there are the other mornings when I go in and feel so proud. I’m raising another bookworm…

Little Man in his cot

Again, not a word from him, he’s just sat there reading his book, patiently waiting for me to come and get him.

It’s about the only time that he’s so calm and peaceful, of course…!

  1. Aw he is so sweet. It has to be said that EJ is a lot more contented to lie awake in his cot when he wakes than JJ used to be. Sometimes he does some gibberish chat to himself. I’ll have to start leaving a book in there and see if he reads it to himself! X

  2. Lovely. So cute that he sits there reading his books, fostering a love of books is so important. My little boy is book mad and it’s one of the things I’m most proud of.

  3. Oh wow… that’s the direct opposite to my little 20 month old guy, who was standing in his cot screeching the street down at 9, 11, 1, 3 and 6 last night! Even when he’s not up in the night he screeeeeams to let us know he’s awake! He’s just started yelling “GET OUT!” when he’s confined too! – He likes books, and he has a stupidly large collection for his age, but his attention span won’t allow him to sit and look at them for longer than 5 minutes!

    1. Oh no! My daughter always shouted and wanted to be up and at that first thing in the morning, but my son’s more peaceful – at this point in the day anyway!

  4. The first time they see you in the morning and smile is one of the best things in the world. That smile! I wish I could bottle it.
I love how he’s sitting there reading in his sleeping bag! So cute – Never too young to appreciate a good book x

    1. I love finding him reading! Like you, I always love that morning smile, so throw a book into the mix and it’s perfect! X

  5. Awwww what a very lovely calm way to wake up – My z will wake up in the night and want to get into bed with us, and we always relent. Then he makes himself snug and go straight back to sleep! 🙂

  6. Little man is just adorable! I love how he just stays in his room rustling around. POD used to do that too – now she comes in and bops me on the head with a monkey! Not always mind. It’s great that he loves books, it’s so important isn’t it and that photo is just lovely. Thanks for sharing with #whatsthestory

    1. Ah, cute little POD! I do love it, though I love Boo snuggling in with us as much – lovely to have 🙂

  7. Ah what a cutie, Monkey is pretty patient when he wakes up too, though his books aren’t really near enough for him to grab and read in his cot, I’m sure he would if he could though as it’s usually the first thing he wants to do when we go in and pick him up! Lovely to enjoy the quiet moments before they go tearing round the house for the rest of the day 🙂 xx

  8. Aww how sweet. Its funny how even siblings are different. My youngest always asks if it’s morning and is always proud to be first up.

    1. Oh, my daughter panics that no one will wake her and she’ll miss the day, so leaps out of bed early every day! You have to admire that positive attitude to every day!

  9. Aww, bless him! He is such a good little boy, reading rather than trying to get your attention. Great perspective on that shot! x Mel

  10. So sweet, my youngest is still in a cot and sometimes we catch her like this in the mornings but more often she’s shouting at us or her older sister to get her out 😉 xx

    1. Ha ha – my daughter was always a shooter, but Little Man’s more laidback when he’s still sleepy 🙂
