My Garden in December

Well, here we are at the end of the year, and I’m not quite sure how and when that happened! I’ve enjoyed reflecting on what’s been happening in my garden each month and sharing it in a few shots, too. I’ve captured it through all seasons now, and through all of the work we’ve done out there, too. Looking back, we have got quite a lot done, with cutting a tree down, removing a shed, building a veg plot, adding a little wildlife garden and my favourite thing, my cut-flower patch.

And so to December.

I’ve actually still been planting! More roses (of course!) which have gone in the beds at the front of the house. My mum’s also bought us some hellebores for Christmas, so she’s gone and popped those in for us, too. They look lovely on the pictures, so I am really looking forward to seeing them bloom. All I have out there now are a couple of splashes of purple..

Aside from the planting and purples, though, it all looks so bleak out there. Just browns, bare trees, soggy leaves and greens. I’m not tempted to spend any time out there, so things are sprouting up all over the place, the climbers are still climbing, some shrubs are wilting, need cutting back, but it will all have to wait until springtime now.

But, it does feel like it was blooming and warm and pretty just a few weeks ago, so I suspect it’ll be flourishing again before I know it, and I’ll be back out there happily tending to it then. The cycle will begin again, and it will no doubt wow me again….

How’s your garden growing?

  1. It won’t be long before all the little shoots start appearing-I love the excitement and expectation they bring. Knowing you, I imagine the ground will be bursting with them soon. Cant wait to see what you’ve done with all the planting 🙂

  2. Thank you. Oh I knew nothing a year or so ago, but am totally into it now and love the colour that I know will be bursting out there next spring 🙂

  3. I don’t know how we’ve got to the end of the year already, it doesn’t seem like long ago I was reading about your cut flower patch! Hellebores are beautiful flowers, especially when the petals are a little speckled. I haven’t spent much time in my garden lately but I tell myself it’s good for it to be able to do its own thing for a while 😉

    1. Ooh, I think I’ll tell myself that, too! I know, it was surely only last week I was out there cutting my flowers?! It’s flown! x

  4. Ahhh your cutflower patch! I want to do that in 2015 and maybe a wildflower one too – it feels good to have plans for the future. I know I should be revealing in Christmas but part of me is looking forward to Spring bulbs and daffodil explosions!

Thanks for joining in again lovely! x

    1. I do look forward to seeing your cut-flower patch next year. Yes, I’ve got my eye on springtime, too, and it’ll be here before we know it! Thanks for hosting xx

    1. I knew I needed something so last year found a few things that would bloom now, and it is very mild which helps!

  5. Those purples really shine out, just lovely. A cut flower patch is high on my list for next year too – Annie is right, we’re all happily planning next year aren’t we?!
