Easy & Fruity Breakfast Recipes

Things have changed around here at breakfast, thanks to being involved in Princes’ Mums on the Run campaign.

Princes are encouraging us to stock up with their canned fruit range, helping us to serve up healthy and easy breakfasts for our families.

I have to say, when I first got involved in this, I had one of those, ‘why didn’t I think of this before?’ moments! I do like to ensure that the kids and I have plenty of fruit in our diets, but I hadn’t thought about using canned fruit to do it, or to add it to our breakfasts. Of course with buying the cans, they can live in the cupboard for whenever we need them with no chance of food waste, ensuring they’re always fresh whenever we want them. It has also meant that I can get several different types of fruit in, so the kids have plenty of choice and variety. It all counts as one of our five a day and as they are prepared in the cans, I don’t have to spend time peeling, chopping or pitting them, they are good to go.

Princes have several simple recipes over on their website, and we decided to give this one a go. The video shows the method and how simple it is to create…

Mango slices, two tablespoons of Greek yoghurt, more mango slices and then a sprinkling of mixed seeds and dessicated coconut on top. It took me less than five minutes to prepare this for us, from grabbing the bowls from the cupboard to serving it.

It was a hit with Little Man, though it’s not one for Boo. She is intolerant to coconut and isn’t keen on the seeds, but I made her a simple mango slices and yoghurt breakfast and that got a thumbs up! The kids also like to drink the fruit juice from the cans with their breakfast, and see that as an extra treat each day.

This has altered the way that we’re doing breafast here and both Boo and Little Man are enjoying coming up with new breakfast recipes and ideas. It’s become something of a fun project for them, and of course, as they’re interested in preparing the food, they are interesting in eating it!

Is this something you already do? If not, I do hope it’s inspired you to try something different as it has us. To help you get going with this, Princes are running a great competition with me…

  1. I remember we always used to have canned fruit in the hampers that mum used to buy at Christmas. She would use it in her trifles, mixing the fruit in with the jelly before it was set, it was delicious. I will admit that I don’t buy it very often now but I do feel inspired. I would make for a breakfast a type of pear cranachan, using tinned pears sliced and layered with creme fraiche and oats.

  2. We love Princes tinned fruit yum!
I am going to make the breakfast fun faces, that would definitely make us smile in the mornings 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. I think we would try adding tinned fruit to porridge, never thought of tinned fruit before but it would be ideal.

  4. I like to add mandarins to my Museli, it just freshens it up and it tastes ” So Good” and is “So Simple” to do

  5. I use a tablespoon from a can of Princes red cherry fruit filling on my porridge with a sprinkle of flaked almonds – cherry bakewell-esque breakfast is delicious! I highly recommend giving it a go 🙂

I’ve just joined back at the gym so am trying to eat healthier, I’ve been having porridge before going and it’s quite bland so I’d love to try it with my porridge, my children love prince’s peach slices with custard xxx

  8. I can’t believe I haven’t done this either, so glad I read this post. With four boys this would be great for breakfast, my boys love yogurt, top it with some fruit and I’m on to a winner ?

  9. I have tried this before and it was delicious. Tinned peaches under baked porridge oats! Mix oats, egg, yoghurt, drop of vanilla and pour over a tin of drained peaches and bake in oven for about 35 minutes. A gorgeous hot breakfast to start the day!

  15. I’m definitely going to try this- looks yum! I wouldn’t say it is a recipe, but I’d use canned fruit with granola and yogurt because that is my current favourite breakfast (and I can often be seen with a bowlful in the evening too!)

  16. I think I’ll try some breakfast muffins. I could make them with oats and because of the fruit I wouldn’t need much sugar. They’d be great at the weekends, maybe with a dollop of Greek yoghurt.

  17. I’d love peaches on top of cornflakes with yoghurt & a drizzle of honey!! Off the breakfast topic, we LOVE tin peaches & cream ?

  18. For breakfast I like 2 pancakes (Birds Eye do good frozen ones you can heat up straight from freezer in toaster), topped with natural yoghurt and canned fruit- yummy!

  20. Overnight oats with tinned fruit. Oats and mixed crushed seeds with almond milk mixed and put in the fridge overnight then served with any tinned peaches.

  21. Toast can be the basis for a whole host of breakfast ideas, sweet or savoury. Nutella and banana slices are a good one if you like sweet and savoury can be just plain cheese for those fussy eaters!

  22. Tinned peaches or pineapple and Greek yogurt makes a lovely summer breakfast, and porridge with sliced peaches or tinned berries makes a lovely winter breakfast

  23. I’d make overnight oats which is porridge oats layered with yoghurt and peaches and left in the fridge overnight so the yoghurt and peaches soak into the oats ready to eat for breakfast. Yum!

  24. I would make overnight oats by layering the fruit with yogurt & oats and then leaving it in the fridge overnight in a glass jar.

  25. I love tinned mango slices and I always have these on my live yoghurt with honey and pumpkin seeds. Yummy. Thank you

  26. Fluffy buttermilk pancakes with strawberries and a thickened strawberry sauce, using canned strawberries in syrup or juice.

  29. I’m a big fan of overnight oats anyway and I am always looking for new variations so I would give there recipe a try for sure!

  30. I’ve tried Greek yoghurt with porridge oats stirred in and tinned strawberries work really well with this – so tasty and low in fat I’ve been preparing pots to take to work for my brekkie and sometimes lunch. Really like the idea of coconut and mango too.

  31. Overnight Oats with Mandarin Segments looks so yummy and I think the kids will love the novelty of having breakfast in a mason jar, also something you can prepare the night before and is just ready to go in the morning gets a big thumbs up from me

  32. I am so going to try the overnight oats with mandarin segments recipe, not only would my kids like it but I would too! Plus you get it ready the night before so it’s a win win all around x

  35. I have Orinces peach slices on my home made porridge with sultanas. Fills me up for all the morning and so delish!

  37. My son loves waffles with banana for his breakfast most mornings so I would mix it up with some canned peaches and pop a few on top of my porridge.
