Family & Days Out

Siblings February 2017

It’s time for me to share a little update on my two this month, and initially I though that not much had changed. But there has been a shift, and it’s largely down to my daughter. Boo and Little Man still play together, still giggle and conspire together, and last week saw them having fun on a ‘sleepover’ together – they both slept in Little Man’s bedroom, at their request, which they loved. On the surface everything’s the same but it seems that my girl is growing up. We took them to the playground last weekend, nothing out of the Read more >

Siblings January 2017

OK, to sum the siblings up this month is easy – they absolutely adore each other! Having two weeks off over Christmas has meant that they are the very best of friends. We had a wonderful break and the kids were just revelling in being together 24/7. Boo’s return to school has meant that every afternoon they try to cram in about a day’s worth of play in the couple of hours they have together, and they give it a good go! They have yet to come down after Christmas and as we were keen to keep the fun times Read more >

Our 2017 Adventures Wishlist

I have said it before and I will say it again, I do not like January. I am a summer person, I like warmth, sunshine and pottering about in the garden. I am OK with autumn as I love the changing colours and the cosy evenings, I then have Christmas to look forward to which I love but when that’s all over and I’m left with cold January I am not happy! Knowing this, I decided to book a little weekend away for us all for this coming weekend and having that on the horizon is making this month and Read more >

What the Ladybird Heard Live!

Yesterday we were fortunate to be invited along to Birmingham Town Hall to see What the Ladybird Heard Live! We are big Julia Donaldson fans here and I have so many happy memories of reading this one to Boo over and over and over again so we were all very excited about the show. Two crafty robbers, one tiny ladybird, and a whole farmyard of fun! Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len have a cunning plan to steal the farmer’s fine prize cow. But they reckon without the tiniest, quietest creature of all: The Ladybird has a plan of her own! Read more >

Siblings December 2016

Ah, December is here and with it comes over-excitement, anticipation and endless questions. When will it be Christmas? How does Santa do that? What shall we feed the reindeer? How does the elf work? What will we do on Christmas day? – this last question has been answered many, many times, but they do not tire of hearing the answer! I do love Advent and the countdown to Christmas, and we’ve been fully indulging in our fair share of Christmas movies, songs, meeting Santa, looking at beautiful lights and catching up with friends and family. And the kids? They are Read more >

Meeting Santa at The National Sea Life Centre

Over the weekend we took the kids to the National Sea Life Centre Birmingham to meet the man himself, Santa Claus! It’s fair to say that they were really, really looking forward to it. We had a brilliant time at the Sea Life Centre last time that we visited, for their Finding Dory event over the summer, and then to top it off, they were getting to have a little chat with Santa. Now going into Birmingham in December can be a little chaotic, but we had no problems. I’d suggest going early, if possible, to avoid too much traffic Read more >

Win Tickets to ‘What the Ladybird Heard’!

We are big Julia Donaldson fans here, as I imagine most households with young children are. So I am so excited that we’ve been invited along to see What the Ladybird Heard at Birmingham Town Hall, just after Christmas. We’ve yet to tell the kids, so this will be a lovely surprise for them to go along to as the thrills of Christmas die down. Based on the award-winning children’s book, What the Ladybird Heard will be performed at  the Town Hall from Tuesday 27 December 2016 until Wednesday 11 January 2017, with a specially adapted relaxed and BSL interpreted Read more >

The Giovanni Rana Famiglia Table Challenge

A couple of weeks ago we were challenged to take the the Giovanni Rana Famiglia Table Challenge. Not ones to shy away from a challenge, especially one that involves delicious Italian food, we decided to take them up on it. Italian food always goes down well here with all of us. I’d say it’s my favourite kind of food and fortunately the Husband and the children enjoy it, too. Nice and easy quick pastas are a firm favourite, so Giovanni Rana is welcome in my home! So what’s the challenge all about? Giovanni Rana is on a mission to make Read more >

Siblings November 2016

Another month, another Siblings post. I have to admit, I am struggling to believe we’re in November! The kids are in Christmas mode. Already. It’s kind of difficult for them not to be as everywhere they go there are adverts, signs and products promoting it, so of course to them it’s just around the corner yet the wait seems like it’s forever. They are happy, they are excited, and they are like little bottles of pop! They are always cheerful and play well together, but it’s like they’re on a permanent sugar rush this month and I can only see them Read more >

Kidzania Is Not To Be Missed!

On Saturday we got the train down to London for the day. We had been invited by the team over at Kidzania to go along for a visit and I have to say, all four of us were intrigued to see what it was all about.     If you’ve never heard of Kidzania, they explain the concept as… Imagine a 75,000 sq.ft. child-size City where kids are in charge! KidZania has landed in Westfield London. Have your kids ever dreamt of becoming a pilot, a firefighter, or the next award-winning singer? Watch the excitement on their faces as they try Read more >

Thank Mum It’s ‘Fries-Day’!

I cannot be the only mother who gets to a Friday and just wants an easy evening with the kids? I spend all of Friday working on the blog whilst the kids are at school and in nursery, so come 3pm as I leave the house, I just want to collect the kids and get the weekend started. And it usually starts with a simple meal and plenty of cuddles and fun. This is why I can totally get behind McCain’s ‘Fries-day’ initiative. It’s a chance for the kids to choose their favourite teatime meal on a ‘Fries-day’ night, for the whole Read more >

Night-Time Adventures with Energizer

Over the weekend, as we were out in the garden enjoying Bonfire Night, we decided that it would be the perfect time for the kids to take part in a few night time adventures. The team over at Energizer® had sent us a box full of goodies as they are helping to power family time with a range of batteries and headlamps all ready for adventures. They are also currently working with The Secret Life of Pets, offering chances to win plush toys on their promotional packs, so as well as a whole bundle of headlamps and torches, the kids Read more >

On Sibling Love

I have no doubt mentioned here before that I have a brother. A little brother, though to be fair, he is a tad taller than me now! My brother and I have the same age gap as my children. Well, if we’re being absolutely exact, our age gap is 2 years, 11 months and 2 days, whereas Little Man’s and Boo’s is 2 years and 11 months dead on. And yes, my brother did berate me at the time of Little Man’s birth for not getting the gap right! We got on well as kids. My childhood is filled with Read more >

Siblings September 2016

It’s time to pause and take a little look at my two this month, for the Siblings Project. I love joining in with this as it means I have shots of the two of them together every month, something to look back on in the years to come. This month’s photos are all from our break to Blackpool. It was Little Man’s birthday at the start of the month, so the day after we drove up to Blackpool Zoo and then stayed in Blackpool that night so that we could show the kids the illuminations. We then took to the Read more >

At The End of the Summer Holidays

At the end of the summer holidays I feel sad. I don’t want to send my girl back to school tomorrow. The freedom that the holidays bring, no school runs, no restrictions on our time, is just magical. Having these two little faces around me at all times makes me happy. Very happy, even when they drive me crazy! My girl says she’ll miss me when she goes back to school. I suspect if she really thought about it, it’s her brother that she’ll be missing. They have that special sort of relationship that only siblings can have. They can Read more >

Happy 4th Birthday, Little Man

My Little Man is 4 years old today. I can hardly believe it! I thought Boo had grown up quickly, but Little Man’s years seem to be flying by. Four years ago today, Little Man made his way into the world by way of a planned cesarean section. He was a cuddly baby, always content as long as he was fed and sleeping near, or preferably, on me. So what’s changed in those four years? My son is still very much a cuddler, and it’s always to me that he rushes to when he needs reassurance and comfort. He still Read more >
