The Blog Lowdown – My Monkeys Don’t Sit Still

Today on The Blog Lowdown, I’m delighted to be hosting Jo, from My Monkeys Don’t Sit Still…

Please Introduce yourself
Hi. I’m Jo, Wife to Mark and mummy to our two monkeys! Known as little monkey and big monkey they are 3 years and almost 6 years old. We live in the East of the UK, where I’ve been lucky enough to meet some of the blogging friends I’ve made. There are lots from all over the country, some of whom I hope to meet one day.

When did you start blogging?
I started blogging in March of 2013. My 1st post went live on the 19th to be exact. I started blogging to give myself something to focus my mind on, other than the day to day running of the family home and looking after the monkeys! Which would also create a log of the monkeys childhood and something for them to look back on in years to come.

Tell us a little about your blog
My blog is called My Monkeys Don’t Sit Still. It’s a Parenting & Lifestyle blog. ‘I’m a slightly mad Mummy to two monkeys who keep me on my toes! Blogging about family life, fun days out and everything in between’. My 1st post went live on March 19th and was entitled ‘New to Blogging. (http://www.sitstillmonkeys.co.uk/2013/03/new-to-blogging.html) Therefore it was recently the blogs 1st birthday and something I felt really proud of. I am thoroughly enjoying writing the blog and everything that goes with blogging.

Who designed your blog?
The blog has recently been redesigned by Jen at Magic Feather Designs. I’m really pleased with the design, I think Jen did a great job.

Which of your posts have been the most popular? Are there certain types that get more interest?
I tend to find giveaway posts are the most popular and attract the most interest. Silent Sunday posts are also popular.

How do you promote your blog posts, and which methods do you find to be most successful?
I use Twitter and Facebook to promote my blog posts and share them on Google+ too. I find them all to be equally successful.

Which linkys do you most enjoy joining in with/reading?
I take part in several and like to do so each week if I can! There’s Magic Moments, Tried and Tested Tuesday, Mad Midweek Blog Hop, Country Kids, Project365 and Silent Sunday, that I most regularly join in with. I also link up with Small Steps, Amazing Achievements, Thankful Thursday and Word of the Week when I can. That’s lots of linkys!

When are your busiest days on the blog, and why? (if you know why!)
I find Friday, Saturday and Sunday are my busiest days, as those are the days I finish my posts for at least three of the linkys above. I also spend a lot of Saturday and Sunday commenting on the posts others have linked up on those linky’s. Blogging can be very time consuming! My husband often sits in silence of an evening whilst I blog and comment away!

Can you name 3 things that blogging has brought you?
New friends for certain. Also opportunities to attend events and visit places. It’s also given me many products to review. I’ve been very lucky.

My top 5 tips for blogging would be:
top 5 tips to remember when blogging– Take as many photos as possible on a daily basis as you never know when you’ll need them for a blog post.

– Blog for you and nobody else, or it won’t be as enjoyable.

– Only blog when you want to and don’t get drawn into doing it more often then you can manage to keep up with others.

– Try not to get hung up on stats and where you are in charts etc, though this is easier said than done!

– Finally only blog whilst you are enjoying doing so. If you feel like you have lost your blogging mojo, take a break from it.

  1. I find it fascinating to learn about other bloggers and why they do it as well as what they get out of it. Happy birthday to your blog, Jo! I really agree with every single one of your top tips. Mel

  2. Its really good to be introduced to some new bloggers! I agree good tips. I am finding that a lot is about to change with my blog since I wrote my blog lowdown post ironically. I think I am going through a bit of a mental shift in how I see it… (for additions – not to change the way I write or the essential reason for wanting to write). X

  3. great tips – it is funny what you say about photos because I take loads and loads of photos thinking they’ll be good for a blogpost and then hardly ever find the time to write up the blogpost! Perhaps one day I will catch up with myself and get to blog about all those photos. x
