A Gift for Gardeners

My mum is a keen gardener, and is very green-fingered, so when gift times roll around, I do consider getting her presents to feed her love of gardening.

I’d been looking at hampers for her, but they don’t seem to cater for ‘proper gardeners’. By that I mean most of them tend to be pretty trowels, watering cans and herb pots and the like, which is all very nice, but not of any real benefit for my mum. She wants plants and useful tools, not just pretty things! So I decided to put together my own hamper for her, shopping for everything over at Mill Race Garden Centre.

First I had to choose the actual ‘hamper’, and I was impressed with how many baskets they have available. I went for a large seagrass basket with a lid, as I can see this being something she’d be able to use again. As it has a lid on it, I also thought it would easier to dress, as I can close it and wrap it up with some pretty ribbon.

Basket chosen, it was time to choose a few items to fill it with. I know that she gets through gardening gloves pretty quickly, so I popped a couple of pair of those in as they will always come in use. I then know, from my own much more novice gardening, how a good pair of secateurs can make jobs so much easier so I’m hoping she likes the ones that I’ve selected for her and that they serve her well.

After that, it was all about the plants! So I’ve got her several packets of seeds and a pack of bulbs, along with a pretty indoor bulb display, too.

It all fit into the basket nicely, and the basket itself feels really sturdy and well-made.

I’m really pleased with the gift and am looking forward to giving it to my lovely mum. Hope she likes it!
